Florida appears to have suffered a significant injury to the starting lineup, with right fielder Ty Evans hurt in a collision with the wall in a game against Kentucky on Saturday.

Evans attempted to catch a foul ball that was careening toward the wall that wraps around right field. He was going full steam when he realized the wall was coming up.

The Florida outfielder barreled into the wall and appeared to get his right wrist caught between his body and the padding.

Coach Kevin O’Sullivan revealed after the game that Ty Evans appeared to have suffered a broken wrist, an injury that would likely keep him out of the lineup for the forseeable future.

“I think his wrist is broken,” O’Sullivan said, according to Gator Country’s Nick Marcinko.

Evans’ loss will be significant for the Gators. He hits in the heart of the order and has been one of the team’s most consistently productive players at the plate.

The junior is second on the team in batting average at .321, while he has knocked out 13 home runs and added 43 RBI, tied for second on the team. Evans has 24 extra-base hits and has also drawn 19 walks.

Florida can replace him defensively, with Michael Robertson likely to fill in during his absence. But replacing the plate production will be a bit more difficult, and the Gators need it.

O’Sullivan’s team is fighting for its NCAA Tournament life, likely still needing a couple more wins to feel comfortable about making it into the field. Florida sits at 26-24 overall and 11-15 in SEC play.

The team is coming off a positive result against Kentucky, despite the injury to Ty Evans, which occurred with the game well in hand.

Florida notched a 10-1 win over Kentucky on Saturday to even the series at a game apiece after a thrilling contest went 12-11 in the Wildcats’ favor in 10 innings on Friday night.
