Sunday, May 12th is Mother’s Day. A time for everybody across the United States to share their appreciation for their mother’s. Plenty of college sporting events are going on across the country in America, including the Mississippi State Bulldogs taking on Arkansas in baseball. In the middle of the game, Bulldogs head coach Chris Lemonis shared a heartwarming message on the special day.

“Yeah, what an awesome day,” Lemonis said. “You know, we talked about it on the bus and made sure everybody called their moms and my wife — we want to make sure I gave her a shout-out. And I told them, I lost my mom a couple of years ago, you better appreciate them. Because for most of these guys, that’s one of the strongest people in their lives if not the strongest.”

Mother’s Day is always one of the most important days of the year, and it’s great for Lemonis to remind his players about that.

Mississippi State let the game on Sunday slip away from them, as Arkansas separated with a barrage of home runs in the sixth inning. Arkansas trailed 6-4 in the sixth inning, before Hudson White blasted a two-run shot to tie the game.

Later in that inning, Peyton Holt stepped up with two outs and obliterated the baseball in the video above, giving the Hogs their third two-run homer of the day. His go-ahead home run, his fourth homer on the year, gave the Razorbacks an 8-6 lead over Mississippi State. And they wouldn’t relinquish the lead the rest of the way, bringing home the 9-6 win.

Mississippi State currently sits at 33-18 overall and 15-12 in the SEC. They’re led by slugger Dakota Jordan, who showed why he’s been one of the best players in America this weekend.

On Sunday, he had an amazing grab at the wall in one inning, then blasted a home run in another. Those kinds of plays have become routine for him over the years, but that don’t make them any less special. The Mississippi State star leads the team in several different categories: batting average (.370), home runs (17), and RBIs (59), among others. He figures to be a highly coveted prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft, and it’s easy to see why with his special skills on the offensive and defensive ends.
