Scott Forbes stresses challenge of winning series in the ACC

North Carolina has been an unstoppable force at home this season and has yet to meet an immovable object in Chapel Hill, now having won every single one of their home series.

The Tar Heels are closing in on a likely regional host seed in the NCAA Tournament and can largely thank their dominance at home for such a robust regular season both in and out of conference.

To start the year, UNC whupped Wagner in a sweep, scoring 46 total runs in their first three home games. Then, they went on to topple the following foes in Boshamer Stadium: Princeton in a sweep, Pittsburgh in a sweep, Rutgers in a two-game sweep, Georgia Tech in a sweep, Notre Dame in a sweep, two out of three vs. Virginia Tech, and then Louisville in a sweep. That’s just one loss in any of their home series this year.

During the Louisville series, head Tar Heel coach Scott Forbes spoke on that accomplishment and explained just how difficult it is to go undefeated in home series as an ACC team.

“I mean, that’s hard to do in this league. It’s hard to win series in this league,” he said, then noting how the team was able to respond so positively at home after some losses on the road early on.

“You know, there a couple of things here sometimes. Those losses, they definitely make you a better coach, they make you a better team. But sometimes, a tough loss can can make you figure out as a coaching staff what you need to do in that same situation, and that’s that’s some of those losses did that to us.”

Forbes recalled the Wake Forest series, which North Carolina swept on the road, as a real sign of what his club is capable of.

“This is a team also that went to Wake and kind of said ‘okay, let’s see what we are.’ Because, you know, obviously Wake is extremely good and they were at home and that was a big confidence boost for our guys winning that weekend series and sweeping them on the road.”

Obviously, Carolina gained some major momentum sweeping a highly-ranked squad on the road, and that’s carried over to the Heels’ home field all year long. But even with just one loss in any of their home series, Scott Forbes is chasing perfection as the Heels go for another home sweep against Louisville Sunday.

“I try not to take it for granted at home. But my mind, I’m thinking like, man we didn’t sweep Virginia Tech, we got to do better this weekend find away to get a sweep.”
