Oklahoma baseball saw one of the rarest accomplishments you’ll ever see in a baseball game on Saturday night vs. Baylor. Bryce Madron stepped up to the plate and delivered an in-the-park grand slam, clearing the bases and pushing the Sooners’ lead to 13-7 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The inside the park grand slam was Madron’s 11th home run of the 2024 campaign. He currently leads the team in homers and ranks second in RBIs.

It’s certainly something that you rarely see on any level of baseball. And it came at the perfect time on Saturday night. The pivotal blast helped lift the Sooners to their first ever Big 12 Regular Season Championship. Oklahoma rolled to a 19-7 victory, with the run-rule going into effect.

The Sooners have now rattled off six straight wins, and they sit at 32-17 overall and 18-10 in the Big 12 Conference.

In 2023, Madron won All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors, starting all 60 games in right field. He batted .320, leading the team with 51 RBIs, 58 runs scored, 15 doubles, 61 walks, and 127 total bases. Last year in the NCAA Charlottesville Regional vs. Army, Madron went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, four RBIs, and a run. He also did some damage in the NCAA Regional vs. East Carolina, going 3-for-4 with a home run, walk, and two runs.

The slugger had one of the best performances of his career against Texas Tech (April 14th, 2023), when he went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs, and four runs.

Before arriving at Oklahoma, Madron played for Cowley College (Arkansas City, Kansas). He appeared in 65 games there, batting .420 with 72 RBIs. Madron also brought home first team all-conference and second team all-region honors there.

Oklahoma softball also had another impressive showing on Saturday night, soundly defeating the Texas Longhorns 5-1 in the 2024 Big 12 Tournament Championship Game. They won the Big 12 Tournament Championship for the second straight season. Ella Parker won Most Outstanding Player honors on Saturday night.

It will be the last time the Sooners bring home the Big 12 Championship in either softball or baseball, because they’re moving onto the SEC next year. It’ll be interesting to see how the baseball team finishes the regular season, the Big 12 Tournament, and the NCAA Tournament.
