Virginia Tech wing Tyler Nickel plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports’ Chris Arvin.

Nickel averaged 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game this season while suiting up for the Hokies. He saw seven starts in 33 games worth of action, picking up 24.3 minutes per game.

While Nickel’s results have been mixed so far at the college level, he’s a developmental player with a ton of upside. He was previously ranked as a four-star recruit, the No. 84 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Tyler Nickel was ranked as the No. 24 small forward in the class, while checking in as the No. 3 player from the state of Virginia, hailing from Elkton (VA) East Rockingham.

Nickel was the Virginia Player of the Year in 2022, averaging 35 points, 11 rebounds and five assists per game as a senior.

Sean Pedulla enters NCAA transfer portal

Virginia Tech guard Sean Pedulla plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on his Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

Pedulla noted that while he will be in the transfer portal, he will also be “strongly considering a return to Virginia Tech” for his last season of eligibility.

The 6-foot-1 guard averaged a career best 16.4 points per game during the 2023-24 season. He also chipped in 4.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds, a well-rounded player and the heart and soul of the Hokies.

In three seasons at Virginia Tech, Pedulla has played in 102 games, while starting 66 of them. He is a career 35.5% 3-point shooter.

Pedulla had a monster start to ACC play earlier this season, scoring 32 points in a game against Clemson before going off for 33 in a game against Miami three days later. In the game against Miami, Pedulla actually tallied a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds.

The backcourt talent finished his junior season in 2023-24 by scoring at least 25 points in six different games.
