By the end of the summer, Vernell Brown III plans to be committed. If he needs more time, he will take it, but he is aiming for a decision before his senior season at Orlando Jones.

After numerous spring visits, the No. 61 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking has narrowed his list down to four schools. Florida, Florida State, Miami and Ohio State made the cut.

“Looking at what I want in a school, those four stand out the most,” Brown told On3. “All four schools run great programs, all have a lot of things I like and all four recruit me hard.

“They are different in some ways, and similar in some ways, but all four schools have a lot of the things I am looking for in a school.”

Brown has an official visit to Ohio State set for May 31. He is at Miami on June 11, Florida on June 14 and Florida State on June 21. On his mind now, is getting to that finish line.

“I am going to continue to gather information, take everything in on the visits and make my decision,” Brown added. “It is going to be big for me on these final visits. I see through the fluff, so I want to see what is real and work to get my list down to one school.”

Florida, Florida State, Miami and Ohio State all appeal to Brown

Ohio State has been viewed as the out-of-state school with the best chance to land Brown.

“Coach Brian Hartline and Ohio State produce receivers and develop guys at my position. It is that simple with Ohio State.”

Then you have the in-state programs. All three are fighting to be his choice.

“I have those connections to Florida, so it starts there. I like Coach Billy Gonzales too and their development is proven, so they think I can be featured in that offense.

“Florida State has a great staff. They were my second offer and they have been on me hard since. I like what Coach Mike Norvell is doing. It is about the same with Miami. I love Coach Kevin Beard and where the program is going.”
