Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert On300 cornerback Trystan Haynes announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-2, 160-pound Haynes chose to play for head coach Brent Venables and the Sooners over his other finalists in Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Miami.

The On3 Industry tabs Haynes as the country’s No. 18 cornerback and No. 148 prospect overall. He is the No. 5 player in the state.

“I ended up choosing Oklahoma at the end of my process,” Haynes told On3. “It was the atmosphere and the fans. Every time I went up there they showed tons of love.

A major coup for the Sooners

Brent Venables and Jay Valai led the charge in recruiting Haynes to Oklahoma.

“The coaches played a huge part as well,” Haynes said. “I had a really good relationship with Coach Valai And Coach V and trust their ability to develop me as a player and as a person as throughout they have both been helping in terms of skill at their camps and just talking randomly with me checking in on me letting me know that I was a key piece to the plans they had coming into the SEC.”

Haynes becomes commit No. 15 for Venables and the Sooners in the 2025 recruiting class. He is the third prospect from Carl Albert High to jump into the fold joining athlete Trynae Washington and linebacker Marcus James.

“My teammates also played a part in it,” Haynes said. “Being able to stay home with my family while being able to go out and compete with a team comprised of a whole lot of Oklahoma kids to go put ourselves in the forefront to let the world know what kind of football we play in Oklahoma.”

Haynes fills the box score on Fridays

Haynes had a fantastic junior season registering 51 tackles, seven pass breakups, three interceptions (two pick sixes) and three forced fumbles. He also turned 45 receptions into 1,009 yards and 12 touchdowns. On special teams he had three kick returns for score and a punt return for six.

Haynes will play in the All-American Bowl in January.
