The international golfing world shifts to Kentucky, as the sport celebrates its second major tournament of the year. And who might take home the PGA title?

Brooks Koepka is the defending champion of the event. The last time the PGA was held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville was a decade ago. And Rory McIlroy won it all. But can anyone knock off Scottie Scheffler, the hottest golfer in the world and the winner of last month’s Masters?

We’ll take a look at the favorites and why they have a chance to win. Plus, keep reading to check out the odds for all golfers in the field, courtesy of DraftKings.

Scottie Scheffler (+450)

The field possibly is hoping that rust has slowed Scheffler as he makes a run for the PGA. He took off three weeks as he and his wife, Meredith, waited in Dallas for the birth of the couple’s first child.

Baby Boy Scheffler did arrive and dad showed up at Valhalla this week. “I’m definitely rested going into this week, for sure,” Scheffler told reporters. I don’t really feel like any rust has accumulated,” Scheffler said. “I’m able to do stuff at home to simulate tournament golf, especially on the greens, competing and gambling with my buddies. I don’t really want to lose to them, either, so I was able to simulate a little bit of competition at home.”

Rory McIlroy (+750)

McIlroy hasn’t won a major since he edged Phil Mickelson for the PGA title back in 2014. So it’s safe to assume he’s anxious to break his major tournament drought.

But McIlroy did win the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend. He’s now second in the world, ranking above everyone on tour but Scheffler. But there is a bit of drama in McIlroy’s world. In addition to the ongoing LIV drama, he filed for divorce this week from his wife of seven years.

Xander Schauffele (+1400)

Schauffele finished a distant second to McIlroy last week. And oddsmakers like the fact that Schauffele’s iron game is better suited for Valhalla.

He’s played a dozen events this season. Although he hasn’t won as yet, he still has two runner-up finishes. That’s why he ranks third in the world. Schauffele also has eight top-10 placements so far. At some point, consistency will win a major.

Jon Rahm (+1600)

Rahm is competing in LIV this season. So Valhalla will be only the second tournament in which Rahm can compete against his friends on the PGA Tour. He raised some eyebrows this week when he told reporters he still felt like a member of the Tour.

And, he said coming back to the PGA doesn’t feel any different than LIV. “Obviously, the schedule’s been a little bit different to what we played in the past. But at the end of the day, it shouldn’t really be a difference. It’s a lot of what we play for, right, is this tournament and getting it done. So besides the tournaments I’ve played and the different venues and the different flow to the schedule, there really isn’t any other difference in that sense.”

Brooks Koepka (+1600)

Nobody in the world is better at winning PGA Championships than Koepka. After all, he has three in his career. So you always put him amongst the favorites.

Like Rahm, he’s playing LIV. He’s also coming off a win, with a victory in Singapore. Plus, the course is long and narrow. That plays to Koepka’s best skills. He’s also one of 16 LIV golfers in the field.

Ludvig Aberg (+2200)

Aberg needed to skip last weekend’s tournament. His knee was too sore to play. And it was more important to be healthy for the PGA.

Aberg is 24 and he’s only a year removed from competing for Texas Tech. But he finished second at last month’s Masters. It’s apparent that majors don’t shake him.

Bryson DeChambeau (+2800)

DeChambeau’s game also best suits the PGA and Valhalla. He hits it long, so Valhalla shouldn’t scare him. DeChambeau also has one major to his credit. He was victorious at the 2020 U.S. Open.

The LIV golfer finished in a tie for sixth at the Masters. He hasn’t cashed a winner’s check since last September.

Collin Morikawa (+3000)

Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Morikawa won the 2020 PGA championship, his first-ever major. But he hasn’t finished in the top 25 in the past two PGAs. Plus, he’s also never played a pro tournament at Valhalla.

Most golfing analysts believe Morikawa’s game is becoming powerful again. And that’s why he’s among the favorites.

Max Homa (+3500)

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Homa, who is one of the most popular golfers on the PGA, still is searching for his first major. He finished third at the Masters, although that’s a bit deceptive because no one in the field was going to catch Scheffler.

Homa ranks ninth in the world. And he’s coming off a tie for eighth place last weekend at the Wells Fargo. Homa also posted a top-10 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. So his game is there to compete at the PGA.

Joaquin Niemann (+3500)

Nieman, who is from Chile, is a star on the LIV Tour. On that tour, he has posted seven straight top-25 finishes. Four of those were top five.

However, like the other LIV golfers in the field, he hasn’t played against the PGA golfers since the Masters. In Augusta, he finished in a tie for 22nd.
