Former LSU linebacker Omar Speights has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent, per report.

Speights spent one season at LSU after transferring into the program from Oregon State. He played in 10 games for the Tigers where he recorded 65 total tackles.

Before his time in Baton Rouge, Speights was one of the Pac-12’s premier linebackers.

As a true freshman in 2019, Speights played in all 12 of the Beavers games that season, logging 12 starts. He ranked second on the team in tackles with 73 while adding 7.5 tackles for loss, an interception and logged double digit tackles in three games. These stats earned him Freshman All-American honors.

His sophomore year finished a bit different, as Oregon State played seven games that season due to the shortened pandemic season in 2020. Still, he totaled 63 tackles, 4.5 of which were for a loss.

Speights came back to Oregon State as a junior and continued his strong numbers with a career high 89 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and two interceptions and a fumble recovery. His season started off on a high note, logging 12 tackles against Purdue and didn’t take his foot off the gas for the entire season.

As a senior, he was recognized as a First Team All-Pac-12 selection by league coaches after leading the Beavers in tackles with 83. Under his leadership, Oregon State’s defense let up a conference low average of 108 yards per game, which included a matchup against Florida in the Las Vegas Bowl where the Gators were held to 39 rushing yards on 33 attempts.

He hit the transfer portal for his final season of eligibility after that, signing with Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers for one year in the hopes bolstering his NFL resume. Injuries forced him to miss multiple games, and went ultimately undrafted as the 2024 NFL Draft came to an end.

Speights wouldn’t have to wait long to find out the next stage of his football career, however, as the Los Angeles Rams called him up to offer him the opportunity to try and make the 53-man roster this offseason.

Before his storied collegiate career, Speights was a three-star recruit, per the On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 72 linebacker in his class, and No. 3 player in his home state of Oregon.
