Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn raised eyebrows with the t-shirt that he wore over the weekend. Quinn was seen weaing a Commnaders shirt that had the “W” with feathers from the old logo attached to it.

The shirt is reportedly new and for sale, but the Commanders said they have “no orgainzational comment” on the matter, per Pro Football Talk. The team also told NBC 4 in Washington D.C. that it has no plans to bring back the old name after social media reaction to the shirt, which is not officially licensed by the Commadners (per CBS Sports).

In 2019, the Commanders dropped the orginal team name and were rebranded as the Washington Football Team in 2020. They changed the named to the Commanders in 2022.

“Obviously, I grew up in D.C. and I was there during the glory years, so I understand why fans love the former name,” Commanders owner Josh Harris said last September, via Sports Illustrated. “But look, there was a portion of our fanbase that felt disrespected by the former name.

“Sports are supposed to bring people together and not be a distraction. I don’t want distractions … I thought it was important that we end the conversation.”

Dan Quinn ready to turn Commanders into a contender

Quinn was hired as the Commanders head coach earlier this year after spending the last three seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. He was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015 to 2020 and led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2016.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to become the next head coach of such a storied franchise and fanbase,” Quinn said when he was hired in February. “Under the leadership of Josh Harris, the ownership group, and Adam Peters, we cannot wait to help usher in a new era of Washington Commanders football. The organization has an outstanding vision, and I’m honored to be a part of what’s next.

“I want to thank Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Coach Mike McCarthy, and the entire Dallas Cowboys organization for the past three seasons. The players, coaching staff, and everyone across the organization became family in such a short time. We have a great task ahead of us, but the ownership group, Adam, and I are lockstep in putting in the work to achieve our goal: consistently competing for Super Bowls year in and year out.”
