In-state defensive end/edge Brenton Williams of Opelika (Ala.) signed his National Letter of Intent with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period. Here’s everything you need to know about him.

The Williams File
Two weeks after de-committing from Coastal Carolina, Williams chose the hometown Tigers–just a 10 minute drive down the road.
Williams, the No. 25 recruit in the state of Alabama for On3, quickly emerged as a Tigers priority. He backed off his Coastal Carolina verbal Nov. 17 and picked up multiple offers of late including from Penn State and Michigan State among others.
Auburn Live was not able to scout Williams in person during the season, but he was a terror for Opelika (Ala.) High’s defense. He can often be seen disrupting the offensive in a multitude of different ways: batting down passes, generating edge pressure, throwing offensive linemen aside, and more.

Williams isn’t ready to burst onto the scene at Auburn yet. His future potential is high, but he has yet to scratch the surface on that. Can he add some depth and a few snaps here and there? Absolutely. He can do so in year one.
The hold up will be his ability to refine skills such as edge setting, getting free of blocks, learning to keep his balance, and using his hands correctly.
When he learns to do that, he will be ready to compete for a job at Auburn. It could happen sooner than later.
