Sooners baseball wins first Big 12 regular season title
No need for scoreboard watching this weekend for Sooners baseball. Oklahoma won its first Big 12 regular season title outright over the weekend by sweeping Baylor for the program’s first regular season championship in its final season in the conference.
Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Oklahoma has swept a school-record six conference series en route to the program’s first Big 12 regular season title. Skip Johnson’s club swept four of its final five weekend series going wire-to-wire in first or a tie for first place after every weekend of Big 12 play this season. The 21 conference wins is the most ever by a Sooners team in Big 12 play, surpassing the 2000 team that won 20 games.
Not a terrible parting gift for the Sooners who head to the SEC next season and roll into next week’s last Big 12 Tournament in Arlington as the No. 1 seed. It’s the school’s first conference championship since a Big Eight title in 1995.
Oklahoma scored 47 runs over the weekend, scoring 19 runs in both the opener and the third game Saturday night. John Spikerman hit the Sooners first grand slam since teammate Jackson Nicklaus big fly in Omaha at the College World Series (2022). Bryce Madron hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

It was just that type of weekend for Oklahoma, who has now won 12 of its last 15 games and heads to Cincinnati this week to close the regular season with games against Xavier (Tuesday, 3 p.m.) and a three-game series against the host Bearcats (Thursday-Saturday).
The Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Globe Life Field begins next Tuesday. Oklahoma has won three Big 12 postseason championships in conference history: 1997, 2013 and 2022.
