Tennessee and NC State set to square off in primetime
Tennessee and NC State state will be a primetime feature on ABC in week two of the college football season.
It was announced on Wednesday that the two teams will square off in Charlotte at 7:30 on September 7th in the Duke’s Mayo Classic
Josh Heupel and Tennessee will open the 2024 season a week earlier at home against Chattanooga in what’s expected to be an afternoon start while NC State will open their season against Western Carolina on Thursday night August 29th.
The Vols enter the 2024 with plenty of expectations thanks to a defensive line that’s as deep as any in the the country highlighted by James Pearce, Jr. and on offense everyone has expectations for second year quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
The Wolfpack are a very different looking team from a year ago thanks to the transfer portal. NC State will be led at quarterback by transfer Grayson McCall from Coastal Carolina. At receiver they are hoping for explosion from Ohio State transfer Noah Rogers who’s returning to his home state. The Wolfpack have welcomed 15 transfers since January. Their transfer class is ranked 7th nationally by On3.
Tennessee and the Wolfpack last played in Atlanta to kickoff the season in 2012 with the Vols winning 35-21 in the Chik-fil-a kickoff classic. It was a coming out party for junior college transfer Cordarelle Patterson. This season’s meeting in Charlotte will mark the fourth time the two programs have met but only the second time since 1939.
