Tennessee Baseball Tony Vitello Details 3-0 Loss To Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee dropped its first game 10 tries to rival Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Commodores 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference series finale from the state’s capital.

No. 1 Tennessee (42-10, 19-8 SEC) experienced its worst offensive game of the season as the Vols were held to just three Dylan Dreiling hits on the afternoon. Vanderbilt (34-18, 12-15) tacked on three early runs in the first two innings and cruised from there. The Commodore win snapped a nine-game losing-streak to Tennessee.

It’s the first shutout for the Volunteers this season and the first since the season-ender to LSU (5-0) in the elimination round of the 2023 College World Series.

Zander Sechrist (1-1) is the losing pitcher on the day after allowing three runs in two innings of work. JD Thompson (4-1) earned the victory after tossing six-plus innings of scoreless baseball with nine strikeouts. Nate Snead pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Vols, tallying four strikeouts in the process.

Tennessee returns home to Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the final four games of the regular season this week, but first, here’s how it all went down in game three from Hawkins Field.
