Bronny James expected to remain in 2024 NBA Draft
Former USC guard Bronny James has been medically cleared to be selected in the 2024 NBA Draft and is expected to remain in the draft rather than return to school, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Wojnarowski revealed the news Monday morning on Twitter.
“ESPN Sources with @Draftexpress: In the aftermath of his cardiac arrest and a procedure to repair a congenital heart defect nine months ago, the NBA’s Fitness to Play panel has medically cleared USC’s Bronny James to be drafted and play in the league,” Wojnarowski posted.
Charania reported James is expected to remain in the draft and will participate in all pre-draft activities at the NBA Combine this week.
James appeared in 25 games this past season, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He shot 36.6 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from 3-point range. The start to his college career was disrupted by a cardiac arrest suffered during the summer at a USC practice.
“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest,” a spokesman for the family said in a statement from July. “Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.”
