Georgia got its quarterback commitment in the 2025 class on board last month, with the Bulldogs beating out Florida and South Carolina for four-star Findlay (Ohio) quarterback Ryan Montgomery.

With their offensive centerpiece locked in, UGA now has its attention on adding playmakers around him. Five-star tight end Elyiss Williams is already in the fold, as are four-star Ethan Barbour and blue-chip running back Bo Walker.

The Bulldogs have signifcant needs at the receiver spot though, and they’ve got a handful of in-state targets they’re very high on. One on that list is Savannah Calvary Day School four-star athlete Thomas Blackshear.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder is a playmaker on both sides of the ball, but schools are recruiting him to play wideout at the next level. And the Bulldogs are a school he’s very high on.

In fact, on Tuesday On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons logged an expert pick in Georgia’s favor to land Blackshear. UGA is now trending heavily to land him in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Bulldogs’ success and coaching staff connections are key factor

“Georgia has a slight lead over Tennessee,” Blackshear told On3. “Both schools are recruiting me hard and I like a lot of the same things about each school, but Georgia is a little bit ahead of Tennessee.”

When talking about what he likes about each school, Blackshear praised the coaches in Athens and Knoxville, the facilities at each program and the offense both schools run.

Georgia is closer to home, but Tennessee has a former teammate, and both schools will receive an official visit.

“I like Georgia a lot. Their offense spreads things out more now, they are throwing the ball more and I like how they play and practice. Me and Coach [James] Coley are cool and we are getting to know each other well. He is a cool coach.

“Coach [Kelsey] Pope is a coach I like a lot. He is about every little detail. Coach Pope is younger too, and we relate well to each other. I have Merk (Jake Merklinger) up there too. He tells me about Tennessee, how the coaches are real and how much they want me and talk about me up there.”

There was a little chatter behind the scenes that Blackshear could be closing in on a decision, but that is not his plan as of now.

“I will take my official visits first,” Blackshear said. “I have an official visit to Georgia for June 21 and I plan to take one to Tennessee earlier than that in June. Then I will make my decision on where I feel most at home. Where I feel most comfortable is where I will go.”
