LSU DL Mekhi Wingo declares for 2024 NFL Draft

LSU Tigers defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo has made a decision on the 2024 NFL Draft. He has officially decided to take his talents to the NFL.

Wingo began his career with the Missouri Tigers, before joining LSU ahead of the 2022 season. Over his three seasons of college football, Wingo has amassed 95 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one interception.

Check out his draft declaration below, as he shared it to X with the caption, “You came to far you can’t look back you got to finish.”

“I first want to start off by thanking God for blessing me with my talents and allowing me to use them to fulfill my dreams,” Wingo wrote. “I would like to thank Coach Drinkwitz and the University of Missouri for giving me a real chance and opportunity to chase my dreams and showcase my talent in front of my hometown.

“Thank you to Coach Kelly and the best fans in the world for welcoming me to LSU with open arms, I enjoyed every minute of my time here and wish you all nothing but the best. Coach Jamar Cain and Pat Hill I appreciate you all for pushing and believing in me and making me into the player that I am today.

“I am Thankful for Coach Steeples and everything that he has done for me from my time in Highschool all the way to college. I want to thank my teammates/brothers from both universities for always being there for me and being ready to battle every Saturday night.

“Lastly, I want to thank my mom and the rest of my love ones who have always believed and pushed me. to be my best.

“WITH THAT BEING SAID, I WILL BE FOREGOING MY LAST YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY AND DECLARING FOR THE 2024 NFL DRAFT.”

More on the 2024 NFL Draft

The 2024 NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Michigan, with the first round on Thursday, April 25, the second and third rounds on Friday, April 26, and the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday, April 27.

Players will have the opportunity to solidify their draft stock at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from February 26 through March 4.

The three-day event will be broadcasted throughout the weekend on ESPN and NFL Network.

To be eligible for the NFL Draft, players must be at least three years removed from their final year of high school while having used up their collegiate eligibility. Underclassmen are able to request league approval to become eligible for the draft, as are players who have graduated prior to using up all of their collegiate eligibility.

Last season, 69 players were granted special eligibility for the 2023 NFL Draft. 13 underclassmen who had completed their college degrees were also deemed eligible to be selected.

The deadline to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft is on January 15. NFL teams will receive a full list of eligible players in the class on January 19.
