Texas A&M lands transfer commitment from Georgia kicker Jared Zirkel
Texas A&M has landed a kicker out of the transfer portal. On Sunday morning, former Georgia Bulldog Jared Zirkel announced his commitment to the Aggies after spending four years in Athens.
Zirkel never got much action as the team’s actual place kicker, and he’s only ever attempted one kick on the goal posts, an extra point in a 2022 win over South Carolina, which he made. Otherwise, Zirkel has developed into more of a kickoff specialist and was the Dawgs’ kickoff man for this season.
Here’s a breakdown of his kickoff abilities, as reported by the Georgia Athletics website
“Has played in all 13 games to date as kickoff specialist…kicked off nine times in season-opening win vs. UT Martin, seven of which resulted in touchbacks…kicked off eight times in win over Ball State, six of which resulted in touchbacks.”
Those are some pretty impressive numbers to start the year. Plus, he also recorded touchbacks on all seven kickoffs vs. Ole Miss, all six kickoffs vs. Georgia Tech, and pushed the ball through the end zone seven out of nine times against a Kentucky team that possessed the SEC’s most dangerous return man.
If nothing else, Texas A&M now has an experienced SEC-caliber leg who can boom the ball through the back of the end zone far more often than not.
