Former Evansville forward Ben Humrichous will transfer to player for Illinois in 2024-25, he announced Tuesday via X. He is a graduate transfer with one season of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-9 forward led the Aces in scoring this past season with 14.7 points per game while shooting 41.4% from 3-point range. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team as a result.

Humrichous played his first three seasons of college basketball for Huntington University, an NAIA school in Indiana. He averaged 12.8 points and 5.2 rebounds during his final year with the team before making the jump to Division I.

Illinois is set to lose starting big man Coleman Hawkins, who averaged 12.1 points this past season, to the NBA Draft or transfer portal if he decides to return to college. Forward Quincy Guerrier, another starter from 2023-24, will also not return after exhausting his remaining eligibility.

With the Illini needing to fill those shoes, the addition of Humrichous couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.

Ben Humrichous is the fifth transfer player to join Illinois this offseason. That includes former Notre Dame forward Carey Booth and former Louisville forward Tre White.

The Fighting Illini have three scholarships remaining to fill up their roster for the upcoming year.

Notre Dame forward Carey Booth transfers to Illinois

Former Notre Dame forward Carey Booth has a new home in the transfer portal. Booth is committed to Illinois, he announced on Instagram on Tuesday evening.

The former four-star prospect has three years of eligibility remaining. He left open the possibility of returning to Notre Dame when he initially entered the portal, but odds were always against that happening.

“[Illinois tells] me how much they love me as a player,” Booth told On3’s Jamie Shaw on April 6, when the Fighting Illini were recruiting him. “They see me like a Coleman Hawkins-type, doing a lot of what he does. They play fast and push the pace; they want me to be able to create some off the dribble.”

Booth, the son of Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth, was Shrewsberry’s highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2023. He was the No. 59 player in the On3 Industry Ranking with his lanky 6-foot-10 frame, athleticism and shooting ability standing out among most prospects.

Booth finished with 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a freshman, shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from three-point range. He played in all 33 games, starting 19.
