Report: Former UCF, USF QB Timmy McClain set to commit to Arkansas State

Former UCF and USF quarterback Timmy McClain is set to commit to Arkansas State out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to Matt Zenitz. McClain has multiple years of eligibility remaining.

McClain played one season for the Knights, throwing for 1,065 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions during the 2023 season. Before that, he started for the USF Bulls in 2021 and did not play during the 2022 season, utilizing his redshirt the season following his transfer.

He’s thrown for 2,953 career yards and 14 touchdowns to go along with 342 rushing yards and five additional touchdowns.

Before college, McClain played his high school football at Seminole (FL) High School where he was a three-star recruit. He was also the No. 66 rated quarterback in his class, per the On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

UCF recently picked up a coveted running back transfer

Toledo Rockets running back Peny Boone has committed to transfer to the UCF Knightsper Hayes Fawcett. He previously played for the Maryland Terrapins.

In 2023, Peny Boone was the MAC Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions for 2019 yards and another touchdown through the air. That performance helped him lead Toledo to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the MAC Championship Game.

Boone spent two seasons at Toledo. Prior to that, he spent two seasons with Maryland. Over the course of his career, Boone has rushed for 2,097 yards and 20 touchdowns.

UCF is coming off a 6-7 season, which was the program’s first in the Big 12. The Knights were excellent on the ground for the season, finishing with the fifth in the country in rushing offense with 228.23 yards per game on the ground.

Boone played high school football at Martin Luther King (Michigan), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 380 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Following the 2023 season, Boone entered the portal and initially committed to the Louisville Cardinals in early January. However, by April, he had re-entered the Transfer Portal.
