An all-conference player from one of the Group of Five universities is looking to take his game up another level. On Wednesday, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers wide receiver Moussa Barry entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Berry might have flown under the radar as he entered into collegiate sports out of high school as a member of the 2022 recruiting class cycle, but that surely will not be the case when it comes to his entry into the transfer portal. During the 2022 cycle, the Dacula, Georgia native, a small town less than 40 miles northeast of Atlanta, who played his high school ball at Dacula High School, did not receive a recruiting ranking, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

After red-shirting his freshman season at Western Kentucky, the red-shirt freshman saw action early and often for the Hilltoppers. Barry played in 11 of Western Kentucky’s 13 games in 2023. In those 11 games, he recorded nine catches for 145 yards and one receiving touchdown. His lone touchdown of the season came during the Hilltoppers 41-24 season opener victory over South Florida, which was a 51-yard pitch and catch that also broke the 24-24 tie between the two programs midway through the third quarter.

Barry’s performance in the 2023 season earned him a spot on the Conference USA all-freshman team.

Western Kentucky CB Anthony Johnson Jr. enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Barry is just the latest Hilltopper to exit the program via the transfer portal. Former Western Kentucky cornerback Anthony Johnson Jr. has also gone portaling. However, unlike Barry, who has the majority of his college eligibility at his disposal, Johnson has at least one year of eligibility remaining.

Johnson began his college career at the Division II level, playing at the University of West Florida. After two seasons there, he transferred to WKU for the 2023 season.

In one season with the Hilltoppers, Johnson showcased a nose for the ball. He snagged four interceptions and batted five passes and also recovered a fumble in 10 games.

He had been plenty productive at the Division II level, too. As a freshman in 2021, Johnson finished with 15 tackles, six passes broken up, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He then had three interceptions and nine passes broken up in 12 games in 2022.

Johnson played high school football at Norland (Fla.) High School in Miami, where he was an unrated prospect by most services in the 2021 cycle.
