One team is taking Throwback Weekend to the next level and it is the No. 5 team of Kyle Larson with their Terry Labonte throwback. It isn’t just about the car. They got the actual NASCAR champion himself involved in this one.

The No. 5 throwback scheme is likely the best in the field. A homage to the old Kellogg’s Corn Flakes car. Texas Terry was iconic in that paint scheme. Of course, he won the 1996 Cup Series championship in that scheme.

As part of the whole throwback vibe, Hendrick Motorsports made Labonte a matching firesuit. He wore it as Kyle Larson walked to the grid and signed autographs for fans. A really great moment for all involved.

NASCAR is about tradition and the past even more so than most other sports. Having Terry Labonte match with Kyle Larson and greet the fans like this – that’s what the weekend is all about. Everyone always has a ton of fun with throwback week and I wish every team would participate.

Kyle Larson will try and put that throwback car in Victory Lane. That would be the only way to make this day even better for this group. Larson won at Kansas and he’s ready to follow it up with a much more convincing and comfortable win today, if possible.

Larson is set to start in the top-5 for today’s Goodyear 400. It will be a fun afternoon of racing.

Kyle Larson looking for another Darlington win

If Kyle Larson is able to win the Goodyear 400, it will be his second win in a row this season and his second Darlington win in a row. Always a threat no matter what the track is, Larson will definitely be in the mix in South Carolina today.

In his career, Terry Labonte won at Darlington twice. He first did it back in 1980 and his final Darlington win would come in 2003. That is one hell of a gap between victories for Labonte at The Lady in Black.

There are few drivers worth of racing a Terry Labonte throwback. A two-time champion in the Cup Series, Labonte is one of the most accomplished drivers ever in NASCAR. Good thing that Larson happens to be the best of his generation.

Kyle Larson has the car, has the firesuit, he’s matching with Texas Terry – now he just needs to get a win and complete the mission for this weekend.
