HOLY WESTERN KENTUCKY, LET THEM EAT TOAST!

Western Kentucky found itself down 28-0, turning the ball over five times and moving to the team’s third-string quarterback. The Toppers were toast (pun intended), Old Dominion given a 99.0% chance to win in the Famous Toastery Bowl in the second quarter.

And then they made history, overcoming the four-score deficit to pull off the fourth-largest comeback in college football bowl history in the 38-35 overtime victory in Charlotte.

The outcome makes no sense. WKU pulled down a one-handed touchdown to get on the board, but still closed out the half down 28-7. Then it trailed 35-14 with three minutes to go in the third quarter. 37-yard touchdown, 14-yard touchdown, then 15-yard touchdown — the last being on 4th-and-goal from the 15 with 19 seconds left. Overtime.

ODU got the ball and moved it to the one-yard line, but WKU held on to force the field goal — blocked by the Toppers. Given the chance to pull off the miraculous win, they earned a first down, then centered the ball for a 29-yard game-winning field goal attempt, drilled by kicker Lucas Carneiro. Bowl win secured, the program’s third straight and seventh overall.

AND THEN THEY GOT TO CELEBRATE BY EATING TOAST!

TOAST ANGELS!

Are you kidding me?

It really doesn’t get much better than that. How ridiculous (and awesome).
