The best golfers in the world are competing on Kentucky bluegrass today at the 2024 PGA Championship. It’s the fourth time Valhalla has played host to the event and the biggest names in the sport are all entering the event on hot streaks.

Rory McIlroy won the last PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. He’s picked up two straight wins before teeing off on Thursday. Scottie Scheffler also has consecutive wins under his belt, The Masters and the RBC Heritage. People forget about Brooks Koepka because he plays on the LIV Tour, but the three-time winner is defending his PGA Championship crown.

In addition to the big three, Justin Thomas is receiving a warm welcome back to his hometown. He teed off this morning shortly after Tiger Woods’ name was announced. Tiger won the event at Valhalla back in 2000 en route to completing the Tiger Slam.

The bluegrass is buzzing for the event and Kentucky Sports Radio will be on the grounds this morning to discuss it all and much more. After all, it is a very busy time for the Big Blue Nation.

Kentucky Baseball Hosts Vanderbilt

The Kentucky baseball regular season reaches its final destination this weekend at Kentucky Proud Park. The Bat Cats are playing for a regular season SEC title against Vanderbilt. Kentucky has not won an SEC regular season title in the sport of baseball since 1950. They know what’s at stake.

“Yesterday when I spoke to the team, we went over exactly what this weekend entailed and what was on the line,” Mingione said Wednesday morning. “We reminded them ‘Hey, when you’re climbing a mountain you don’t just stare at the mountain top, you go one step at a time.’ The reason we’re in this spot is because we’ve done an amazing job at just doing whatever’s next and whatever that day called for.”

The first step is beating Vanderbilt tonight. The Cats will take the mound for a 6:30 pm EST first pitch at Kentucky Proud Park. Tickets are still available with additional seating in the outfield, but if you can’t make it, you can stream all of the action on SECN+.

Ansley Almonor Wraps Up Official Visit

Today might be a good day to bring out your boom-sticks. Fairleigh Dickinson transfer forward Ansley Almonor is wrapping up his official visit to Kentucky and buzz is building for the Wildcats. An All-NEC performer, he played a role in the upset of No. 1 seed Purdue and now he may play a role for the Wildcats. Keep your head on a swivel for a tease from Cody Fueger.

Ugo to UofL?

Former Kentucky Wildcat Ugonna Onyenso is spending his week in Chicago for the NBA Combine, but the NBA isn’t in his immediate future. For a time it looked like he was staying in the conference to play for Alabama, then Nate Oats received a commitment from Cliff Omoruyi. Joe Tipton reports two new schools have emerged as top contenders for the 7-footer, North Carolina and Louisville. A move to UofL would certainly bring up Marvin Stone memories for Kentucky basketball fans.

Kentucky Tennis in the NCAA Tournament

The Kentucky men’s tennis team has won 20 matches in a row. Three more this weekend and they’ll bring a National Championship trophy back to Lexington. The Wildcats are in the quarterfinals for a third straight season. The No. 5 seed will face No. 4 seed TCU in Stillwater at 2:30 pm. Here’s how you can watch the Wildcats chase history.

First Two Kentucky Football Kickoffs Announced

The SEC on CBS is gone and Kentucky is helping usher in a new era of the SEC on ABC. On Tuesday we learned the Wildcats will receive the new spotlight on broadcast television to open SEC play, starting with a 3:30 pm EST kickoff vs. South Carolina in week two, followed by a night game at Kroger Field against Georgia at 7:30 pm EST.

We discussed what it means for the Kentucky football program, answered the BBN’s burning questions, and shared some thoughts on the PGA Championship on the latest edition of 11 Personnel.

NFL Schedule Released

The NFL schedule release has become a thing. It’s not my thing, but if it’s your thing, I hope you enjoyed the hi-jinx. The Titans and Chargers delivered wonderful content. I will not spend too much time thinking about the schedule until it draws near.

More Very Important Golf News

Sequels for comedy movies that were made 20+ years ago aren’t my typical cup of tea. It’s hard to replicate that magic again. However, this one has me hook, line, and sinker. If Shooter McGavin is back for Happy Gilmore 2, it’s going to be worth the watch, even if the script is nonsensical. Take one look at this and try not to laugh, I dare you.

Remember that Crazy Scene on the Second Street Bridge?

A woman in a semi-truck dangled off the edge of the Louisville bridge for 45 minutes before Louisville firefighters completed a daring rescue. We now know how that surreal event unfolded thanks to dashcam footage of the accident. If you can stomach it, you can watch it below.
