Tennessee Loses Transfer Portal Star to the Transfer Portal
Down in Knoxville, our friends in Tennessee Orange just can’t seem to catch a break. Ya really hate to see it.
A year after the Volunteers were decisively swept by the Wildcats, with a 9.5-point average margin of victory for Kentucky, Rick Barnes enjoyed a few impressive offseason additions. Arguably the biggest name added from the transfer portal was Chris Ledlum. A 6-foot-6 swingman, last year at Harvard he averaged 18.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
Chris Ledlum was sought after by plenty of programs that needed a big, prolific scorer on the wing. Tennessee was thrilled to have him on the roster. The feeling was not mutual.
After spending a few months on campus, the former Ivy Leaguer was smart enough to get out of Knoxville as quickly as possible. On3’s Matt Zenitz reports Chris Ledlum has re-entered the transfer portal.
If you’re wondering to yourself, “How can a guy enter the transfer portal now?” As John Calipari explained prior to Kentucky’s GLOBL Jam trip, grad transfers have the freedom to enter and exit as they please. After spending four years at Harvard, Chris Ledlum isn’t wasting any time wearing throw-up, puke inside of a pumpkin orange.
Even though Tennessee is taking an L today, Rick Barnes has not been completely empty-handed this offseason. The Vols also added Dalton Knecht, a 6-foot-6 forward from Northern Colorado On3 ranked as the No. 19 player in the transfer portal during this cycle.
What’s next for Chris Ledlum? The Vol for Life could be joining another SEC program. Trilly Donovan has carved out a niche as plugged-in, anonymous insider on Twitter throughout this offseason. He’s dropping some tea leaves that could point the prolific scorer to Alabama or Arkansas. We’ll have to wait and see how all of this plays out. In the meantime, take a minute to point and laugh at Tennessee’s misfortune. It’s always a good time.
