The Michigan Wolverines have added a 30th player to its board of transfer portal contacts, jumping into the mix for High Point guard Duke Miles. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining due to a COVID season and a medical redshirt year.

According to 247HSHoops on X, Michigan is in the mix along with Kansas, UCF, Illinois, Auburn, Alabama, Texas, Maryland, Penn State, Wake Forest, NC State, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, LSU, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Cal, SMU, Saint Louis, Samford, UAB and UNC Wilmington.

Miles, who was the 2023-24 Big South Newcomer of the Year and a first-team all-conference performer, made 33 appearances and started 27 games last season at High Point, averaging 17.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and shooting 52.8% from the field (36.1% from three) in 30.5 minutes per night. Prior to this season at High Point, he spent three previous years at Troy.

Last season at Troy, he was limited to six games, averaging 14.0 points per night in 21.1 minutes.

May said during his introductory press conference that they were going to search far and wide as Michigan rebuilds the roster.

“We’re going to cast a big net,” May said. “We’ll narrow it down, we’ll be very patient because we’re not going to take the wrong guys because we have several spots. We’re going to be very thorough but we need to understand that we need to be right, we need to do our research in advance and make sure we make very calculated decisions because there’s a lot of options, and they’re not all great options.”

Guards have been an emphasis for Michigan in the portal under May given there is not a true ball-handling guard on the roster right now. Dug McDaniel entered the transfer portal and committed to Kansas State, while George Washington III is also in the portal but considering a return to Michigan.

Portal prospects at point guard include Toledo’s Dante Maddox Jr., who just put Michigan in his final five schools, Georgetown’s Rowan Brumbaugh, Oklahoma’s Javian McCollum, Dayton’s Kobe Elvis, Tulane’s Kolby King and others.

Folks wondering when movement will start to take place in the portal might start to see things rolling soon. FAU center Vlad Goldin is considered a frontrunner to land with Michigan with On3’s Joe Tipton putting in a Recruiting Prediciton Machine (RPM) pick earlier on Tuesday.
