Purdue has added a running back to its growing ranks of transfer portal commits, receiving a pledge on Sunday from Illinois’ Reggie Love.

Love is a grad transfer with one year of eligibility who will off-set the loss of Dylan Downing to the portal and add a veteran to pair with No. 1 back Devin Mockobee with Tyrone Tracy also gone.

Love, who took a visit to Purdue this past weekend, is the Boilermakers’ seventh portal addition.

The 5-10, 195-pound Love played at Trinity High in St. Louis for current Boilermaker WR coach Cory Patterson, who also coached Love at Illinois when he was the Fighting Illini RB coach.

In his first three seasons in Champaign, Love ran for 528 yards and two touchdowns as Chase Brown was the top Illini ballcarrier. But Love’s role increased in 2023. He fought through a midseason injury to rush for 567 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per rush. Love enjoyed a career-best performance against Indiana, running for 140 yards and two touchdowns in an OT win vs. IU.

Love leaves Champaign having rushed for 1,053 yards on 240 carries, scoring six TDs. He also caught 15 passes in his four seasons as a Fighting Illini.
