Los Alamitos (CA) CB Isaiah Rubin has signed with USC. Although Rubin committed months ago and was expected to sign with the Trojans in December, the officially announcement from USC came today.

The 6-foot-1, 170 pound defender chose the Trojans over Oregon, Utah, and Colorado back on October 20.

Rubin is the No. 495 overall prospect and No. 50 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 38 player in California.

Rubin is the first commitment in the 2024 cycle for USC since July 1.

Rubin was the 16th commitment in USC’s 2024 class a few months back. He was the eighth commit on the defensive side of the ball. He joins Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star Marcelles Williams, West Hills (CA) Chaminade High four-star Marquis Gallegos, Clearwater (Fla.) four-star safety Jarvis Boatwright Jr., Humble (Tex.) Atascocita three-star Braylon Conley as the defensive backs in the class.

USC commitment

The commitment for the Trojans can largely be credited to defensive backs coach Donte Williams. Rubin has long spoken highly of Williams and his recruiting efforts. That relationship helped USC win out in the long run.

“USC is one of my tops schools now because of Coach (Williams) and what he has done with me,” said Rubin previously. “Me and Coach Donte have been building a very strong relationship lately and getting closer and closer day by day!

“My and my pops grew up big USC fans,” he told On3. I grew up in Long Beach, then moved to Las Vegas before coming back to southern California for my senior year. I grew up following USC, cheering for them and I still watch Reggie Bush videos before games. My pop went to USC games, and I went with him. This commitment is something for him, too.”

Rubin was offered by the Trojans at the end of January 2023. Their communication early on varied, but things really picked up in May. He visited for the San Jose State game in September, and that was all he needed to see — he wanted to stay home.

“On that day, I knew I wanted to go there,” he added. “The atmosphere, the fans, the love the players received and the feeling that day showed me everything I was looking for. I told Coach Donte Williams right after I posted my top four schools a few weeks ago. I told Coach Lincoln Riley right away, too. They have known for a few weeks and they are excited to have me.”

This is clearly a case where Rubin committed to USC, not just a coach he was extremely high on. D’Anton Lynn eft not doubt with Rubin that the Trojans wanted him after Coach Donte departed for Georgia.
