Former East Carolina tight end Shane Calhoun will transfer to play at Texas A&M in 2024, he announced Monday via X. He will have one season of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

Calhoun totaled 63 catches for 594 yards and six touchdowns across the past four seasons with the Pirates. He now joins an Aggies tight end room that includes Donovan Green, Garrett Miller and Tre Watson.

As a recruit, Calhoun was a three-star prospect coming out of Creekside High School in St. Augustine, Florida. He ranked as the No. 1,210 overall player and No. 57 tight end in the 2020 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Shane Calhoun is the third tight end that Texas A&M has brought in through the transfer portal along with Miller (Purdue) and Watson (Washington). All three should compete for opportunities in 2024.

The Aggies have so far brought in 26 players and lost 25 through the transfer portal to rank No. 23 overall and No. 6 in the SEC according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings. They added several players on the defensive side of the ball that rank among the top 50 overall transfer prospects according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Texas A&M is coming off of a 7-6 finish this past season and hired Mike Elko this offseason after parting ways with Jimbo Fisher. Elko went 9-4 in his first season at Duke after the Blue Devils went 3-9 the year prior, so the Aggies will hope for a similar turnaround in College Station.
