1/4 of the way through the season, how many good offensive drives have we had.

Sustained scoring drives? I count 4.

First drive against VaTech. First drive against Vandy. Had two 3rd quarter drives against SC State.

It’s been slim pickin’s
My question is why do we not open up our wallets to get top of the line coaches? Why does Clemson do so but, we don't (not that it is helping them this season or last). Are we serious about football or are we just pretending?

We don't have any money, man. We'll have a little money after the next SEC distribution but it will go mostly for players.

I have been a fan since 1975, and I have mostly seen pretending.

Clemson must have some rich alumni boosting them because they seem to pay top dollar for Dabo's staff.

They are sports-centric, but especially football-centric. They also have engineers and we have sociology and archeology majors. Those people up there are part of a cult - as with Ga. Tech, A&M, Citadel - places like that. Their school allegiance comes first.

I was going to point out that our successful drives seem to be the scripted drives.

Might be a good first step to looking at why they are successful.

Maybe we shouldn't have given Beamer huge raises simply because he did his job?

It is extremely curious that the opening drives from Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt both looked like masterpieces. Works of art. We marched down the field with precision. Then in both games the offense instantly went into a shell for most of the rest of the game.

My father graduated from Carolina with a degree in chemical engineering.

Those scripted drives might be the only plays they practiced all week. Kind of looks like it.

I understand that Carolina has engineering disciplines. At UPC, those courses of study, including architecture, majors specific to textiles, agriculture, forestry, the automobile industry, the medical field, and other non-humanities make up a larger percentage of the curriculum.

I'm not discounting the science and technological majors that USC offers, only pointing out that Carolina also offers more of the "softer" majors than UPC. Plus, as I stated, those UPC people network and have a fierce loyalty to that place. They help each other to an uncommon degree. I've seen evidence of that in places where I have worked - one in particular.

I might add that my brother, daughter-in-law, and father all received degrees from USC.

Back to the topic, Loggins had figured out how to call offense for Sellers. Think back, not many of us thought Loggins was doing a good job until last year. Is our new guy calling good plays?, maybe not. Has Sellers been making great reads, no. He is not ready to go pro yet but yes, need to call better plays for him. But he’s a pro talent yet based on what I’ve seen so far. He can be, but not there yet. Had a wide open guy , no 2 open guys but didn’t read the lb dropping in the gap and tried a pop the pass in instead of dropping it over his head. Two guys were open, he missed the read totally, it was wide open

Bad part was it wasn't the linebacker. It was the nose tackle. 🙂

To be fair, I see that in a lot of games. Tennessee went down the field against UGA on their opening drive like a hot knife through butter. UGA returned the favor on their first drive. Then, both teams sort of settled into more normal pace of play. I have noticed lots of games where the opening possession for both teams looks like the game is going to be a shootout with the last team with the ball winning and the final score ends up being 27-24.

I think the fact that about half of SC students and alumni over the last decade or so are out of state students doesn't help in the donation aspect. Kids who come to SC from Ohio, Indiana, New York, etc. don't have the same passion and long time connection to the school and the football team as in state kids who grew up being SC fans. Many of the more recent out of state students also end up going back close to home for jobs when they graduate so they aren't as likely to donate or buy season tickets.

I agree with that premise.
