4 of the best 22 in the state on one squad. Guess everyone is playing for 2nd place this year.

Who shouldnt be on there? Myers Park has several outstanding prospects and everyone knows that it’s a team effort. Can they duplicate and even go further than last year? That’s a good question.

Never said any of them didnt belong. It was a statement of fact. As long as the other 16-18 kids arent below average( and there not). Then a team with 4 of the best 22 kids in the state should win the title in a walk especially when one of those kids is a QB.

So the top ranked player in the Senior Class at his position in the country was left off?

I know there are many different sets of rankings and this is just 1 opinion but who voted/chose? Huge oversight in my opinion. Honestly... stunned.

Other than that, pretty good list. I personally like a couple of others better at some positions but can at least see your case. Like I said though... In at least 1 instance/position... your voters whiffed.

There were kids that made last year’s post season all-State team. They are automatic selections for pre-season and it really doesn’t matter.

I’ve received comments about the kicker selection. Ian Williams was selected all-State in 2018 for his results on the field and he is a rising senior.

That is the reason he was selected, nothing against Josh Karty. He may very well be named at the end of the season.

I’ve done this for 20+ years and will not change my process of doing it.

Elijah Burris was also picked last year and is a rising senior. RB is a very loaded position.

Karty is ranked #1 in country. Rising Senior & committed to Stanford. He won the National Underclassman Challenge hitting a 65 yard FG then stepped back & hit a 70 yarder for good measure.

He should have been on your 2018 postseason team as well. Your trusted colleagues made a mistake then and now.

If you never change, the same mistakes will continue to be made.

I think if your gonna post an All- State anything you should be prepared for disagreement. Nature of the beast and if the criticism is problematic then I wouldnt post.

Part of what makes sports fun is passionate debate.

To me this looks very much like a recruit driven team versus production. I am fine with it and have always thought your post season teams included several under the radar, low recruit kids which I like. The DE from West Forsyth from several years back comes to mind. Not even recruited due to size but an unreal player and more productive than the 5star on the same team.

I’m open to criticism but when you have coaches mad and accusing me that I’m on drugs...well you get the point. Btw it wasn’t on here.

That DE made my All State Team (Brinkley I believe).

It’s a combo of things and not exact science. Like I said this is to give folks some names to check on and the post season means more.

Dont get me started on that kid. Not 2 b hard on the kids but more towards the "experts"...that kid WASNT 5 star...jus my opinion tho. My only gripe and I use rivals camp as an example. I've seen kids that was 3 stars or lower go 2 these camps n dominate but this 4 or 5 star make one play and it's the headline but this lower rated kid gets looked over like he wasnt there. Are u there reporting on the talent or the kid who has Alabama or Clemson beside his offer sheet?
As far as the "all state teams". I'll use 2 kids from my backyard as examples..Stefon Thompson from our team n Kalan Allen that played at MC a few yrs back. Stefon had double digit sacks n is the mvp of every camp he attends n can barely get 3 stars. Kalen was a 3 yr starter for one of the best teams n the country at creek...did he even get rated?
This whole recruiting/scouting and analysis thing baffles my mind

Honestly I thought this list would be dominated by Mallard Creek and Vance players. Since these two are “what’s happening “ in N.C. high school football today!

Not enough overrated 4-5 star players on our teams. But our track records the last 5-10 yrs say north charlotte have some damn good ball players.

I agree. Some very good ball players in that area. Now Myers Park is the icon, the flagship program in N.C. and hasn’t even sniffed at state title game. Now their name is on the marquee. The Maye kid is good but he is not even the leading returning QB in the state. But that’s what name power can get you.

No that's Hough
Y'all try to denied it but you know it's true. Creek got a kid from Butler so far. Mp got a wr from Porter a big recruit from what I read. I have seen multiple post about recruits. Creek QB was from where? The RB was from where?

Everybody get's new guys, but no one in NC can compare with Hough. 85% of their starting roster last year came from other schools. Take Maye from MP and it's over for them. who came from Hough.

Colorado State, Auburn, Syracuse, Miami & UNCC . There are about 10 more in the 2020 class that have not commit. All have been at MC since the 9th grade. 95% of the Creek guys are home grown. Stop listening to gossip and believing what you want to believe. YEP! We get new guys also. :)

There are three more athletes on this list from Myers Park than that of Mallard Creek and a Digital Riot breaks out.

Grow up.....

The problem is that so much of the hype is driven from the camp settings. The kid above was a combine freak. 6'6 260 lbs in HS and was crazy athletic. I saw him live 4 maybe 5 times in two years and he barely impacted play on the field except for blocking punts and FG's. Completely different player in pads. Now... I see where recruiters have to evaluate what he will look like in a college weight program in 3-4 years so I get it. He without question had a 5 star body but never developed in college( Had injury issues to be fair)

Conversely- The Brinkley kid was probably 5'11 and 200lbs. Played with great leverage and had a great motor. Was unblockable at the HS level but wasnt gonna translate into a Power 5 kid no matter how good he was. Which kid deserves the accolades in HS? The 5 star or the productive kid?

To me its the productive kid but it will always be easier to default to 247 or Rival ratings.

Its a hype contest as you stated Blue and Gold. Has always been! Productivity is not the measuring stick its projection at the next level. There are a lot of kids as mentioned that look like Tarzan and play like Jane. I'm not familiar with some of the kids but coming from the eastern part of the state the team seems skewed west. I know the talent in Charlotte deserves a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the players because that is where the best ball is played currently but there are some really dynamite kids that will surface throughout the year and hopefully they will be recognized.

Would love to see an All- Under the Radar team. Great HS players who are either under-recruited or just dont have the measurables to be big time recruits. Kid like Sutton from Vance or Faust from Harding. Two kids who are players.

A few years ago Rose had the stud end that went to NC state (he was like a 5 star . - all-american). They came to SC and he was null & void. The other end who was all conference gave us fits but because he was 6ft and 235 no one projected that kid as a D1 PLAYER. He lived in our backfield all night. The other kid might had been in on (2) plays and it wasn't because we were running from him. It was just the opposite.

Kentavius Street. He never did anything against New Bern, either. The other kid was Christian Pleasant, he was a baller.

Ian Williams might be just as good. What school does Karty play for? If you haven’t seen Williams, then you don’t know just how good he is. He’s got deep range as well. No sense and being bitter about someone’s opinion

I have never seen either player and sure both are going places to further their education. From an unbiased opinion , you can only be 'just as good' as the number 1 ranked player in the country at a position, only if you are also are ranked number 1 in the country.
