Are we surprised? Qatar is not a good team.
On a side not, did any of you play FIFA 94 on sega genesis back in the day? Qatar was the worst team in the game.
This was Qatar’s first-ever World Cup match. They didn’t stink, although Ecuador was clearly a cut above them.
Glad to see Ecuador win that one. I have many Ecuadorian students and I'm sure they're very happy today.

One thing to note, unlike in the Premier League, the games don’t start exactly on the hour or half-hour.
Netherlands gets a 2nd goal in stoppage time. I thought a Netherlands player got away with a foul on a header that set up the play, but no call. The goal came off a rebound after the initial save by the GK.

Edit: Below is the 2nd goal. On seeing the replay, there was no foul by the Netherlands player on the header. If anything, there was a foul by the Senegal player, but awarding advantage was the correct action by the ref.

It was. Senegal had a few excellent shots on goal by the Netherlands GK made some terrific saves. Here's one:
Now 93’, with 8 minutes stoppage time. Saudi Arabia is very fast. Argentina throwing everything at the goal.
Wow, Argentina keeps throwing floaters into the box and the SA goalie keeps going up strong. The goalie just nailed his own defender with a knee to the head, seemingly knocked him cold. I’m no fan of anything Saudi Arabia, but they are playing with incredible heart.
Brutal collision as Saudi GK knees his teammate right in the chin on a leaping block. Dude is KO’d. Yikes double digit ET now.
The guy was down for a good spell, but that was too much time. Anyway, 1-2 is the final. Wow, what drama. Now, off to the gym!

France 2-1 Australia at the half. France much the better team. A fine match, with both teams pushing forward hard. Edit: I’m dusting while I watch and only just now saw that Australia hit the post in stoppage time, it really should have been a goal, a golden opportunity wasted.
