Can't believe she never won!?! Also, Bedknobs and Broomsticks was one of my go to kids movies growing up. I think it's on Disney+, but I am afraid to watch it again and find it to not hold up to my memory of it, haha
I was just looking for the type of joker and the movie being something like The Dark Knight Rises type of deal. This movie was bland, dark, boring, and not Interesting to me in any way. I didn’t look at it in depth like bleed did lol.
Sheena Easton? Patti Labelle? Shirley Bassey? Joan Jett? Ann or Nancy Wilson? Madonna? Tina Turner? Just throwing stuff at the wall now, haha
The academy generally looks down on the genre of horror in filmmaking when it comes to Oscars time. All told only 6 horror films have ever been nominated for best picture. And only one has won it. Can anyone name the 6 films and the film that won?
Silence of the Lambs won. I think Get Out was horror. The Exorcist was nominated. Was The Sixth Sense horror? Maybe Jaws and Psycho to round it out.
You got 5 out of 6!!!! Sadly, Psycho wasn't nominated. The Exorcist was actually the first horror film to be nominated in '74. Hint on the last one: Natalie Portman won a Best Actress Oscar in the lead role for the film.

You know, of the six films only one didn't win an Oscar, The Sixth Sense. I would say, The Shape of Water, (wonderful film if you haven't seen it, imo), teeters on inclusion. However, it's more of a fantasy/romance science fiction film that contains horrific elements/moments.
That's got to be Black Swan. I don't consider that horror though. Granted she was having a prolonged breakdown, but it wasn't scary or spooky to me. I slept with a light on after Psycho.
I can relate Psycho left me unnerved. Still to this day it's one of the most effective horror films I have seen. Though Hitch was a master of his craft. Vertigo will always be my favorite of his. Black Swan hit me with a whirlwind of emotions. I've watched someone fall apart right before my eyes and it's brutal. Seeing that on film just brought it back and made it ever present for me personally. Film is completely subjective though. I've always found what we find scary and what we find humorous to be the most subjective within the medium. I also feel that is true in life as well. Anyway, great job! You know your stuff! You're up!
Thanks. I agree about what emotions films bring out being dependent on the viewer. I thought Black Swan was more heartbreaking than scary. Natalie's performance was worth the price of admission though. Have you seen Judy? I rented it for my mom for Mother's Day. I enjoyed it even though that's not how I'll ever think of Judy Garland. She was dynamite in my memory; kind of like how Shirley Temple will be perpetually five years old to me.
