"A win is a win?" -- who has issues with this...

There seems to be a divide in our fan base between those who are good if we win in any way against any team and those who aren't satisfied regardless of a win because it was against a poor team or our quality of play wasn't good.

I would be very interested to know how many of those UPSET or OKAY with a win like the one over Vandy are:

A) former football players who played for a successful program in HS and/or college
B) former football players who marginally played or played for a lackluster HS and/or college program
C) people who never played football in HS or college

It isn't UK's or Stoops responsibility if the opponent is good or bad. And a win beats a loss any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Personally, I saw several opportunities where we could have/should have scored another two or three touchdowns, but that didn't happen! However, I thought, for the most part, the defense played lights out, and the offense ran the ball very well at times! To answer your question, a win is a win! We are 3-3, 2-2 in the conference, and 3rd in the SEC-East! It's not great, but it is something to build upon! By the way, I played wide receiver (back then, a wide receiver was called a split end) in high school and graduated in 1968 from North Hardin (during those years, a pretty lackluster football program) and was an average player at best! I enjoyed playing football, but it wasn't my favorite sport! Basketball has always been my favorite sport but, talent-wise, baseball was my best sport!

A win is a win of course. But if you break it down a little more, and put it in context, it's not very impressive with our current situation.

Lose to southern miss, barely beat vandy at home. Nothing about that is good for stoops in year 4.

Stoops needs a big turn around.

Never played, but I'm pretty sure that wins against the bottom teams don't really count. The Patriots beat the Browns today. When you look in the NFL record books, it won't be there.

For this program, any SEC win is nice. However, this regime really needs to beat someone other than Vandy, South Carolina and Missouri.

No offense but the way you phrased your final question meant you included all fans...the ones who are okay with it and the ones who are upset by it. Why not just ask all of us which of the three we are if the initial division of the fans in your hypothesis makes zero difference on whether we're included? Just a thought.

Yes! I followed the Trojans, of course, after I graduated, and he had the program moving in the right direction! My head coach was Coach Dan Walker and Coach Rice and Coach Brecht were assistant coaches when I was playing!

Yep, Jaggers was a fine coach. Had some good football in Hardin County back then. West and East Hardin always fielded solid teams that had good talent and were always well coached.

Florida barely beat Vandy the week before.

C and a win is a win, but, there's always a but, a team can look like they're getting better or getting worse in either a win or a loss. We seem to be improving, overall.

Mizzou won the east 2 years in a row before we beat them last year.

Before our current 3 game winning streak, USC owned UK.

B...nowhere near college-level good.

The problem with bitching about an ugly win against a crappy team is that those same people won't give equivalent credit for a close loss to a good team. If we lose, it's a black eye for stoops regardless of how we played. If we win but not by enough, it's also a black eye for stoops.

Played pee-wee, and decided baseball was a better fit for my size and skills. I was better at baseball than football, but always loved football more.

A win is a win no matter how you try to explain it away, doesn't matter the sport.

A loss is still a loss, no matter how valiantly you played.

If we had went to Bama and lost by one point, everyone but us would have forgot about the game by the next week and we'd still have the same record.

Therefore, a win is a win, no matter how ugly.

A win is a win. Some games are ugly. Good teams find ways to win and bad teams find ways to lose. As long as you continue to build on it and it's not a weekly occurrence then it's not a huge issue.

UT this year is a solid example of that. They've played pretty poorly in a lot of games but have found ways to pull it out all but once. I'd take sitting at an ugly 5-1 right now any day.

I am okay with that win. Defense is showing marked improvement and they held a team to no offensive TD's. The running game looks very good and if we can get some QB play then we have a legitimate shot to get to a bowl and get an extra month of practice.

I played through HS but I don't feel like I am any sort of expert. I'm a B.

B - High school and walked on at UK.

Disappointed with the performance of the team. They should not be going down to the wire at home against a Vandy team that has a third year head coach with a .300 winning percentage. Happy for the team that they won but haven't seen enough to believe that the current staff can compete for titles. Just my opinion..

I think the majority of those who are not happy with a close win against a lousy team
are the ones who want this team to fail to ensure Stoops' demise...

A win is a win. But...

I would say there is a difference between a good team doing just enough to win on a bad night, and a bad team playing their best and winning an ugly game.

Because even though a win is a win, when two bad teams play, one of them has to win.

And think of how many moral victories we had through the years where a good team played poorly against us, but they still managed to pull out a 3-7 point win.

I vividly remember getting crushed by Trinity 76-6 and getting my knee wrecked.

Hell of a last game.

When we get to the point where we have the luxury to criticize "bad" wins, i'll be a happy man. Like when we're 8-1 and only win by a field goal over a bad team.

Blowout loss < close/ugly loss < close/ugly win < blowout win.

There's no fan alive that wouldn't favor things in the order above.

Those that are knowledgeable about football know it's a game where matchups are huge. If the matchup is just right it doesn't matter how dominant or cruddy you've been throughout the yr.

For the record, played HS....had a few college schollys but chose to ride academics.....was an athletic trainer for several prominent Tennessee HS's and colleges (including football).
