...McCarthy was making between $8-$9 milllion this year. They think any offer to Fitz would be long term and would have to come close to matching McCarthy's salary in order to wow Fitz and get him to jump.

He has dug himself a bit of a hole by saying he was staying at NU forever. While it wouldn't be the first time a coach has said words to that effect and then left, I think Fitz means it.

I would be surprised if the Packers hire this guy. There are a few good coaches without jobs right now in the NFL...and Fangio will become available when either the Bears lose or go all the way.

If they offer him that money he would be stupid not to take it the marquee NFL jobs are the Packers, Cowboys, Steelers and maybe NYG he could get one of those jobs with a HOF QB in place that has 5 more prime years. Jump on it, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.

He has the keys to the kingdom at Northwestern, he can do no wrong. He has no real pressure, if he goes 6-6 and wins the Motor City Bowl, that’s an good season, anything over that is an amazing season. He’s very well compensated....he’s comfortable....I’d really be stunned if he takes an interview.

I wouldn't be shocked if he interviewed to possibly get some more $ or years at NW. But I would be STUNNNED if he took an NFL job.

I'm torn. I like Fitz ... and admire the hell out of Northwestern, which hired me for my first Chicago job and first job in my studied field. Was set to start grad school there in the Fall of 1998... then had to quit and chase money, as I had twins on the way.

However, they rejected both of my girls for admission ... so I kinda hate them now.

Dont think he will leave. Will get a pay bump from nu for interviewing. That said, dont assume this guy has any moral high ground or integrity any more or less than the next coach. He likes to play that angle up. But he's the same. In many ways he's worse because he's a hypocrite when he plays the moral high ground right way card.

He has said for years a verbal commitment is like an engagement and If you take a visit after verballing he will pull offer.

That's fair to take that high ground. Then Flynn nagel is verbaled to Duke. He is happy to encourage him to visit nu and flip his commitment. You can't take the moral high ground when you will do the opposite if it benefits you. Just my thinking.

I don't think he will leave. But if he doesn't, it will not be because he has superior moral fiber on par with ghandi and mother theresa.

You’re dead on about that Flynn Nagel reference. I’ve brought that up to people in conversation about him. I remember him making that comment and supporting it, then when he flipped from Duke thinking he has problems when people flip from NU but you’ll happily take a recruit that does the same from another school. I know every coach does it but you can’t make a comment like that then do the same.

Back in the 90s, there was a fine young player in my neighborhood who was wooed by Fitzgerald for three years. The coach spent so much time at the kid's house that his parents invited Fitzgerald to use their home as a regional recruiting office -- which he gladly did. Then, on the last day, Fitzgerald told the young man that NU was no longer interested in him.

This seems very strange, since Fitz was a GA for Maryland in 98 and a GA for Colorado in 99.

I got the years wrong ... sorry. It happened later, obviously, but it did happen. I knew the parents. I'm glad I had the opportunity to let some of you pore over stats.

Fitz should keep in mind he will have to deal with players that have the Antonio Brown mentality

Does anyone think that Fitz would make a good NFL HC? I like the guy at NU, but I think his style wouldn't fly in the NFL.
When Pete Carroll had his stint with the Pats, he had a similar rah rah style that most professionals don't respond too and the Pats did not. He went to USC, College Campus,. kids just out of high school and you know how well SC did when he was there. I think if the Bush scandal didn't come down he would still be there. He came into the Seahawks job much more prepared for professional attitudes.

Fitz should bank his $4.5MM annual for the next 10 years and then run for Mayor of Evanston. Screw the NFL.

I agree. Why should he go to the NFL where he is actually going to be judged based on wins and losses when he is somewhere where it doesn't really matter?

NU has been winning quite a few games now for a while and investing huge money into the football and athletic programs.
Athletic Director Jim Phillips is the second highest paid AD in the nation and Phillips was named the AD of the Year at the '18 Sports Business Awards.
I don’t think the idea that Fitz is somewhere where winning doesn’t matter is remotely true nowadays.

Sure as heck does matter at Northwestern Football. If you remember there were rumblings when Fitzgerald was 1-3 this season and the direction the program was heading was not great. The “investors” were really not satisfied until the miracle of the Nebraska game in Evanston evened the slate at 3-3, and started the run to the title of the Big B. Winning is a focus at NU and Fitzgerald will be at the point, but all coaches are hired to be fired as well.

Why would this be obvious to anyone here, other than you?

Remind me, please, which one are you?

Are you the Prep Bowl guy? The gun guy? The don't-be-so-liberal guy? Some other gripe? Lemme know what you obsess over. Thanks..

No issue with Prep Bowl.

Neutral on guns. Own if you want, protest if you hate.

Moderate, so I see both sides.

Only.gripe is assumptive posts and crabby people.

I obsess over good beer, bourbon, football, my kids and Olivia Munn.

Then I will add two words to my post..."as much."

I got to look up her picture. If true she is too good for Rogers. She might be okay for Trubisky!

Your definitely right about Olivia! Very pretty, not beautiful but her figure, especially her legs, make up for any other perceived faults I could find. LOL

Even though it has been a bad couple of days since the Bears lost. It is still better than being a Packer fan at this time of the year. LOL
