I have to admit, I once thought it was the only way we could compete and have exciting football against bigger, tougher SEC teams. We are beginning to see something rare and unexpected at UK...tough defense plus smash-mouth run game. I think we all knew this is how the perennial powers do it...we just never believed we could get there that way. Well I really like what is developing, and if the recruiting stays good we just might become one of those kinds of teams that can compete with the big boys at their own style of football .

If we can get top level OL then I'm fine with smash mouth. It's the easiest way to play the game but in my opinion the toughest to recruit to. If we can keep winning then we can continue to get the blue collar northern recruits and actually make a niche for ourselves in SEC football.
you can beat bad teams if you're really proficient at either running game or passing game, to beat good teams you have to be able to do both, right now we're very one-dimensional
I don't know if Jedrick Wills watched our game yesterday, but if he did he has to like what he saw. As an offensive lineman you have to love smash mouth football and UK did just that. Ran the ball 59 freaking times. he may not come here, but that's definitely got to grab the attention of big time offensive linemen.
We're recruiting pretty well in a Big 10 area. Why not run Big 10 offense? It's counter to what almost every D-Coordinator in this league has to recruit to stop and works all year to scheme against.
It's why I would've wanted NAVY's head coach here if we had to start over...but thank God it now looks like we have some stability at the top for a while.
Just please, make sure we continue to recruit toward great OL, hard-nosed RB's, and a QB who can hurt you with both feet AND arm.

The ball control game to keep an overmatched defense off the field has been the key to the turnaround.
Just need to get that passing game balanced in, cut out the turnovers, and not get too conservative too many quickly in a game
