I used to love going to Hastings on Friday nights in middle school and renting one of the police academies or sports bloopers vhs tapes. One of those cultural experiences that was only a small snapshot in time.

Nowadays, other than books, it was mostly things for nerds without kids.

Back in my single days, I waltzed into Hastings out of boredom after a game in Stillwater. Found myself in some aisle surrounded by all kinds of Star Trek nerdery, ended up walking out with a whole bunch of dumb **** with a stupid grin on my face, played with it all for a week then tossed it on eBay a year or two later and got my money back.

But I still have the Star Trek replica phaser.

Don't hate....

Damn. I have a few hundred dvd's I kept meaning to sell back to them.

Guess I'll make baby-crib mobiles out of them. Or hippie-chick earrings.

I got a playboy singed there and spent time waiting in line for the LotR movies when they hit DVD. Also bought a lot of CD's there while in school at OSU.

I'm a big music guy and they always had a great vinyl section.
As far as chain stores go, Hastings and Borders were the best music selection I can remember. Hastings was kind of like a time machine, especially in the smaller towns. I went to one in Warrensburg, MO, population 19k, and they still had VHS movies they were trying to unload out in their lobby area.

Ardmore and Stillwater Hastings had the best music selections
