This story literally made me sick to my stomach. This is wrong on so many levels. If the Head Coach actively knew this was taking place then he should be prosecuted. Thank God I grew up having High School football Coaches that wanted to win but also taught Life Lessons, Brotherhood/Family and respect for your teammates and opponents. If a culture was created to spend time "hazing" instead of creating a brotherhood amongst the players then the Coaching staff has failed in football and more importantly failed in the opportunity to mentor young men at a point in their lives where a strong male figure is desperately needed. Shame on you!

According to the story, HC at the time is no longer on the staff, but still employed by the district.

I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it until someone provides me tangible proof.

How exactly does sexually assaulting a fellow teammate or abusing a fellow teammate make you and your team better at football?

Does it make for better tackling, blocking skills? What is it and why would anyone in their right mind think this is acceptable?

These people are sick. That coach should be fired as should the principal, who did nothing about the harassing. How many times does this sh#t have to happen for people to wake up. I am totally disgusted by this crap.

wow. so horrible to see. Credit to the victims for coming forward and helping to reduce the incidences here.

Interestingly, I know the new coach, Gavin. One of the classiest folks you will ever meet and will definitely get them moving in the right direction both on and off field.

Obviously the hazing is galvanizing the program, they’ve made the playoffs 4 times since 2000 and haven’t had a winning record in 5 years.

Yah hazing is a great idea.

Horrific story. I went through some football hazing in high school, but nothing to this extent. Some other sport teams at my school hazing much more violently and ended up driving many good kids out of the program. (and some to drugs as well). Actually at my school 25 years ago, the hazing was FAARRR worse for female sports than for their male ones.

A little light hazing is part of all sports but this is beyond ridiculous.

Coaches and the offending parties should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Disgusting.

They have a new coach in there that made some strides this year and hopefully has the program moving in the right direction.

So, you want tangible proof? Are you saying that you want someone to sexually assault you to see if you can play football better? That's terrible.

this is nothing other than sexual assault and all involved should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Uh oh my god you can’t possibly be that ugh

How does hazing make you better at football? That’s the point. You’re failure to see that in the message I wrote is truly disturbing.

The first thing I thought when reading that this family is being resented by some of the families in the community for having spoken out: would they feel the same way if this happened to one of their children? Silly question-of course they would. They have obviously drunk the "community spirit" Kool-Aid.

What’s really even more unreal is that whatever hazing ritual they used was good enough to help the team to a dominating 2-7 record. What a cluster.

doctor_d:

This isn't hazing. To the contrary, it is a sadistic form of sexual assault.

I concur. It’s being reported as hazing gone too far. I think what was described is way beyond hazing. The events described certainly fit the bill for sexual assault. Per the story, court cases are still pending for 3 perpetrators.

Just like Lake Zurich the kids that did this never were suspended from the team. Kids need to have consequences when they do something wrong!
