Guess his mantra that Greg is the only guy who can win here is out the window.
My opinion
The truth is , maybe Greg was the best on of the ones willing to put their careers on the line ( because his career wasn't on the upswing )and was the only one RU would give most of what is needed to succeed at RU because of his popularity with many of the fanbase who put pressure on Hobbs to hire him.
I'm sure there were better choices, but think through third party talks that those choices felt what would be offered in the type of pay and support Rutgers would give wasn't enough for them to put their hat in the ring.
Some are whining Hobbs should have hired ( insert name here) But I feel
that the best ones wouldn't come after hearing through confidential discussions with a RU rep what RU was offering and let it be known , privately, for RU not to ask them in for an interview.
Or make demands (through 3rd party) that they know RU probably wouldn't accept, before the talking started while claiming they were interested in the job because of a legal obligation to seek employment due to a buyout they received .
Making sure they wouldn't be asked to interview for the job unless Rutgers was willing to give them what they wanted.
Schiano had to fight tooth and nail to get some of what he claimed needed to succeed and some RU supporters think he got too much.
Support is something that makes RU not a top job , because despite a great area it's in publicity wise, RU FB doesn't receive the type of support most top programs receive from the administration and boosters .
When I think of this board's support
It's not damm the torpedoes full steam ahead
It's we got the wrong brand of gas, we can't go on, paddle to shore
edit: bori blanco only wanted to inform about the golf outing
and in typical TKR interaction this tread became about Schiano's coaching rather than a chance to golf with him.
For those in the area that like to golf, this might be a chance to enjoy Greg's company or tell him what you think of him while hitting the links in support of Rutgers
