Currently my buddy and I are unemployed was wondering if anyone knows if any of the companies are hiring Carpentrers, Heavy Equipment Operators or Laborers. Need work and seems they are on crunch time. I graduated heavy Equipment school and my buddy is Union Carpenter. If anyone has any ideas or info could use help. Hard times looking for work there is nothing going on in mansfield, ohio. Thanks

I had a case in Mansfield OH once, and would agree, there is nothing going on there. It is a pretty drive from Columbus to Mansfield though.

Just spoke to a client here in central Ky in construction, who said it was the busiest he has ever seen in 16 years of operation. There are projects going on all over Central Kentucky, and Louisville as well. I would suggest a quick trip down to Lexington and spend a few days knocking on doors. Every company I represent is short handed or so they say. And home building seems to be picking up as well, although not as fast as commercial, at least from what I can tell.

If you can't find work in construction right now, you either are a bum or need to move. We have had crews hired off some of my jobs, and scheduling subs has been a nightmare for the CM's I work with. Not sure how much union work there is right now anywhere though, but there are tons of developments being subsidized by Cincinnati and Columbus that probably have prevailing wage clauses in their contract for at least a portion of the work.

Agree, my company has had an impossible time keeping fully staffed at our projects. Screen & hire a guy on Monday, by Wednesday they will be gone for $0.50 more per hour somewhere else.

Messer/Skanska is handling about 90% of all the big projects over there including CWS. Far as the work on the electrical, plumbing, landscaping, field/turf, etc.. it's spread out enough that everybody can earn.

The main architect/design firms for CWS: Ross Tarrant, and HNTB out of KC, MO.

I just graduated Heavy Equipment school not to long ago and there isn't crap in mansfield. Most companies in Columbus you have to be union operator to get good job. They only take apprenticeships in January. Just trying to find something until then. My house is paid off so I am not taling some lame BS for 10 bucks an hr etc. I am looking to operate Dozer, Trackhoe, loader etc...

Turner Construction out of Cincy has a lot of the UK work as well, I think including the hospital. I represent a lot of subs, almost all local, and they are usually working in the UK projects, so they are not all out of Louisville as another poster stated.

I know Messer, but where is Skanska from?

Also, who is the GC on the Centre Pointe project? They seem to really like to take their time. [laughing]

I honestly just started noticing Skanska's name after Messer within the past couple years. No clue where they're based out of, but my guess would be Ohio.

Far as the GC on "The hole", last name I saw listed on the site was a company out of Florida....which is a huge red flag, imo. Only thing I know is when Stantec bowed out of the floors they were going to occupy (and that was relatively early), I knew that wasnt a good sign either. Hell, I'm convinced the dump trucks running through downtown are hauling nothing but covered air outta there.

Kellogg Kimsey from Florida, I checked them out, they are quite reputable. The hotel component of CP is the only part of that whole project that ever made sense to me. I just cannot imagine renting downtown office space for the numbers they will need to cash flow new construction.

My guess is that there are plenty of heavy equipment operators without jobs in KY right now, given the low number of coal mines open throughout the state due to fracking.

That's them, and there goes my theory on their rep..[laughing] Just haven't seen or heard of a lot of local interest in the project really.

I dont know what's going to happen, but it'll be awhile before anything starts.

I am pretty sure if you just showed up they could find something for you to do. To say they are running behind schedule is s understatement.

Based on the live cams.....
