This is necessary to elevate our basketball program nationally, instead of just being an "SEC West Warrior"....We are at a crossroads in a changing SEC, and we have to take that next step. With solid basketball programs A&M and Missouri entering the SEC, its going to be tougher to maintain our position as "best of the rest" in SEC basketball (after Kentucky, Fla, Tenn, and Vandy)....<div>

Now we just have to actually win some of those games. In true M-State fashion, tougher schedules usually end with us wishing we had played an easier one. I hope this team can reverse that trend so we don't end up like a basketball version of Mullen's first MSU team with a great SOS and us sitting at home in the post season and talking about how hard our schedule was.

I will say that if Stansbury can't win with this team (better than an 8 seed in the NCAAT) then he never will.

We will win around 22-23 games, win one game in the SEC tournament and be a bubble team. We have Stansbury's entire career to know and expect this to happen.

They made the tourney last year with a 19-15 record (8-8 in a weak SEC). Now to your original point, they were rewarded for playing a tough OOC schedule, but they were definitely notvery good last year. They were average, and the missing ingredient was Pearl being suspended for half the season. Compared to the 5 years before that, a major drop off.

Now the 4 years before that with the great Buzz Peterson, 14-17, 15-14, 17-12, 15-16. They made a great hire with Bruce the cry-baby, shirt tearing off, cheating liar, but I don't think they will see that kind of success, especially not consistently, anytime soon.

UT had the 7th best record in the SEC. They slipped in the NCAAT because of their SOS and did not deserve a bid at all. They finished 5th in the East. Hell, even our sorry team beat them in Knoxville last year.

we're going to have no less than 9-10 opportunities to beat a legit team this year. If we can't find a way to win at least a couple of those, then we absolutely deserve to be overlooked come selection time. A more difficult schedule is great for RPI, but at the end of the day, you have to win some of those.

The 2K classic will be a big time early test for us. Win at least one of those games in New York and I like our chances to get out of the non-conference schedule with just 2-3 losses. However, lose both games and we may be lucky to get out of it with 5.
