Too many possible scenarios for me to really think it through. I know I'd love to get to seven wins though and take Shreveport out of play.

I don't see us going there no matter the circumstances. I honestly think Birmingham would be as low as we would fall. Sec won't fill all allotments, and that one will be the first one to go at large.

I could see a Kentucky vs. Iowa matchup in the Music City Bowl. Would be a good game with a packed stadium. BBN would flood Nashville like it was the SEC Tournament and Iowa would bring a lot of fans as well.

I could see Music City with a rematch against Penn St. It would also be a return of Franklin to Nashville.

I only have one wish for the a bowl...I don't care where we play, I just don't want to play Miami. As some of you know or have figure out, I am a casual fan of Miami as well and have been since the mid 80's. I won't both my teams to win and that can't happen if they play each other. With that said, YES I would be pulling for the CATS IF they played Miami.

I think it will be Belk or Music City. Either bowl would produce a good "name" opponent like Miami or Iowa or NC State.

One projections has us in the Belk, which is in North Carolina playing...NC State...not a fan of that either.
I saw another projection with TCU...that could be interesting.

CBS is projecting The Independence Bowl vs N.C State. Unless the wheels fall off I think UK will do better than that.

Win 2 of the next 3, play competitive in the losses (if we lose, just don't get blown out) and I really think we head south for a bowl game.

I do love bowl games b/c it's a chance to see different teams/styles play against each other. I really don't care who we play, lets just play someone else from a different conference and beat them!

I think NC State would be a good opponent b/c A) we could win and B ) it's a new bowl location in fertile recruiting territory. Not as sexy as Miami or Texas or teams like that, but I wouldn't mind it.

For those that think Bham or Shreveport, I think the chances of this are low. The SEC is going to have trouble filling its slots and those are the very last two spots to be filled. A lot will depend on A) Making sure SEC gets at least 1 team in playoff (two in playoff frees up yet another SEC bowl slot), B ) how many "New Years' Six" teams does the SEC get? (UT is probably out, but A&M, Auburn, LSU, and UF are all still alive), and C) how many of the lower tier teams qualify?

On letter C above, I think UK is in pretty good position here. Bowl reps want ratings and to sell seats. I have to think that UK with a hungry fanbase is more desirable than 6-6 Georgia or 6-6 Ole Miss b/c those teams simply will not travel in large numbers after disappointing seasons. I also think UK is more appealing than South Carolina or Vandy based on head-to-head wins and a hungrier fanbase.

If I'm right on the above, then UK is basically competing with Arkansas, UT, et al for mid-tier bowl slots

I would agree with you, I just don't like playing a team in their home state. Figures it would be a team from North Carolina too. :chairshot:

I have been a Canes fan since Schnelly in the 80's and I think that Richt will do a great job there. Its amazing how the impact of firing Randy Shannon shaped two programs. If they keep Shannon one more year Teddy Bridgewater keeps his commitment and becomes a star at UM, rather than UofL and we Canes fans wouldn't have had to live through the Jacory Harris days. With that being said I would hope the Cats would kick their butt !!

The sec bowl affiliations make it pretty simple to think about
With bama going to the Playoff that means
#2 to the sugar bowl
#3 to the citrus bowl
#4-9 to the Outback/Tax Slayer/Music City/Texas/Belk/Liberty
#10 to the Birmingham
#11 to the independence

So based on that the most like scenario is 1 of the group of 6 bowl games

Hope that helps

thanks, @zac_limanni...gonna give a stab at this.

#2 to the sugar bowl - Texas A&M
#3 to the citrus bowl - Auburn
#4-9 to the Outback Florida/Tax Slayer LSU/Music City Kentucky/Texas Arkansas/Belk Tennessee/Liberty Georgia
#10 to the Birmingham South Carolina
#11 to the independence Vanderbilt

The last two are dependent on reaching 6 wins of course.

As STUCKNBIG10 pointed out above, there is still a very good chance the SEC gets another team (#3) in the New Year's Six bowls. So then the Citrus Bowl gets pick #4 and everyone else moves down a slot accordingly.

I think that's dependent on Florida... I can't see Bama A&M and Auburn all making it.. Now if FL wins out and then losses to Bama in a close game I could easily see Bama to the playoff and then both Florida and A&M in a New Years 6 bowl

There aren't conference limitation for New year's six bowls. Let's assume that Bama gets to playoff. I think it's highly probably that A&M gets through with either no more losses or just one more loss (hence, they'd have a total of 2). They'd be a lock.

A 2-loss Fla team would also be a lock, but I think they may end up with 3-4 losses (still have LSU, SC, Arky, and FSU).

A 2-loss LSU would also be a lock but they have murderer's row coming up (Arky, Bama, A&M, FLa).

A 2-loss Auburn would also be a lock, but they have to play Bama.

I'd wager that at least one 9-3 SEC team gets in to new year's six. So, that would mean that Bama, A&M, and either LSU or Florida all get Playoff or new year's six bowl games before the SEC pecking order even begins. If FLA goes on a tear, then it could be another.

I don't see a 9-3 SEC team getting in as of right now. So you have 6 bowls with 12 total spots. Four of these spots go to the CFP teams. So now we are down to eight spots.

1. Group of 5 team
2. SEC runner up
3. B10 runner up
4. Big 12 champ ( don't see them in CFP)
5. PAC 12 runner up
7. ACC runner up
8. As of right now lots of good 1-2 loss teams could be fighting for that last spot.

My one question does the CFP place teams in all New Years 6 bowls or do the bowls not part of the CFP get to pick who they want ?

I will take a flyer and say Memphis to play in the Liberty. Win against Georgia and things get muddled up considerably. Then looking at Belkin or Music City. Win against UT in Knoxville.....Then the sky is the limit

Don't see Ole Miss on your list. They are still likely to win six and qualify. While there have been rumors they would self impose a bowl ban, I've not seen anything official.
