Good catch! Felt like I was leaving someone out but couldn't figure out who. Pull Vandy from the list and put ole miss right below UK and move everyone else down.

There is no auto spot for "pac 12 runner up" or "ACC runner up". Bowl games are about ratings and selling tickets. With the group of 6 being appointed by "the committee", there is some merit-based reasoning that goes into these selections; however, there is no limit to how many teams can go from a particular conference.

I think UL gets into new year's 6 bowl if they go 11-1 (but not necessarily at 10-2 based on weak schedule). I think the Pac 12 runner up may have a hard time getting a slot b/c the runner up is likely to have 3-4 losses (USC already has 3 and still has to play washington, ND, and USC; Utah already has 2 and still has to play colorado and a potential championship game).

Long story short, SEC will automatically get the Sugar and is very likely to get a second slot (in addition to Bama being in playoff). I also think it's not inconceivable that a third team gets in depending on how Florida, LSU, and Auburn finish up.

Saw a blurb last night where basketball team plays at Ole MIss on the 29th, so UK may ask to not be considered for Belk Bowl due to date conflict...and potentially push us farther down the pecking order.

But on the flip side, if Kentucky goes to the Liberty Bowl on the 30th, then theres the potential for a doubleheader for Cat fans to take over both Memphis and Oxford?

Asking for a lesser bowl because of an early season road basketball game doesn't seem like it would be a smart idea. If it was a home basketball game for UK then I could maybe see it but it could also look like that UK doesn't care as much about their football team by asking for a lower bowl.

Oh I'm not campaigning for it, I want us to go as high up the pecking order as possible. In fact Memphis would be near the bottom of my choices but if were 6-6 and options are limited, I can see our administration politicking for this.

The pac12 and ACC champion are both gaurunteed a spot.. The poster was putting Clemson and Washington in the CFP which would then put both of the conferences runner ups into a New Years 6 bowl

What he might be saying is this...if a ACC School is in the CFP they are obligated to place the next highest rated ACC School to the Orange Bowl because it is a Contract Bowl. The Orange Bowl Contract is with the ACC vs the Highest CFP Ranked School available between either the SEC/B1G or Notre Dame.

The same with the SEC and Big XII...the Sugar Bowl is obligated to take a school from those Conference if the Conference Champ is in the CFP. Likely this year it is the Big XII Champ vs the Highest CFP Ranked SEC School. The same also applies to the Rose Bowl and the B1G and Pac 12.

The predictions of Birmingham and the Independence bowl just show the people making the predictions don't know what they are talking about... In order for us to go to one of those two bowl games it'd mean we were the 10th or 11th best team in the SEC... Even with 6 wins we will go to a better bowl than either of those.
