Tough to do in the spring in the days of the portal but still interesting to look at.

RU at 4.5 which I think last year we were either the same or 4.
In addition to tOSU, PSU and UM we also play the top two teams in the West, Wisconsin and Iowa and Maryland whose number is 7.
Getting to 6-6 is possible but will be very difficult with no room for error. Northwestern opening night is a must.

Coles - In other words, Northwestern is our bowl game.

Four most probable wins in order:
Wagner
Temple
Virginia Tech-Brent Pry, PSU former DC in year 2, off a 3-9/1-6 year
Indiana- this could be a toss up
-----
Where does win 5 come from-most probable in order:
Northwestern, but they have a stud transfer QB
Michigan State?
Iowa or Maryland?

4.5 does not seem out of line?

It does seem high. We will be favored v Temple and I doubt we will be favorites in any other non-Wagner game. We would need three Vegas upsets to get 5.
I think we may be slight favorites vs. NW and depending on the start of the season VTech.

Coltrane - hypotheticals just for discussion, say we win 3. You and I probably agree he sees at least Year 5. And he can’t fire Ciarocca after 1 year. a bad look after recently blaming Gleeson.

But if he wins 3 or 4 in Year 5, does he get canned w 3 yrs left on his contract ?

Tough call. For me it would depend on if our competitive level is going up or not.
Are we still giving up 45-50 points per game to the B1G boys??? Are we competitive with teams like MSU, MD, MN, IL, etc.
If progress is being made he stays, if not the ice would start to get very, very thin.

Purdue and Illinois were the top 2 teams in the west last year. Iowa and Minnesota had the same record as Illinois but I think tie breakers had Illinois second.

Wisconsin has a first year coach so hard to know how that will go. Iowa’s offense usually isn’t good but their defense has been good.

3 wins with 4 being possible

to exceed that, we'd need for offense to open up, QB to be playing above his weight and the Defense must play exponentionally better with better run d up the middle

if those 3 things do not happen, 3 is what we win and lucky breaks to get to 4

Expect Taulia to be improved. What did you lose in TE and WR? I expect Hemby to be a force.
They lost a bunch of players all over the field. They did bring in a lot of receivers from the portal who should be pretty good. I think they all want to be on the receiving end of Taulia throws.

I feel like they lost enough important dudes that they will take a small step back from last year...

So maybe RU has a better chance this year! It has been brutal the last 2 years. Your backup QB looked good too.

I take it you missed the 37-0 shutout in College Park last November.
Prefer to look on the bright side and expect a Rutgers victory.
Rehashing losses is for defeatists , but the right of Maryland supporters when talking about games between the Terrapins and Scarlet Knights

I think you guys saw the third-stringer for a series or two last year (Eric Najarian, who played the entire game against Rutgers as a walk-on in the Covid year). The backup is Billy Edwards, who came from Wake Forest.

Some of the Rutgers Maryland games have been wild, so I wouldn't try to predict that one. I haven't heard anybody else say what I said above about taking a step back this season, but that's how it looks to me...

They need to get to 6 wins this year. This is year 4. The University has supported as much as possible with coaching salaries. It’s time to show something. Yeah GS took over a bad situation but they will have 4 recruiting classes and the Portal to draw and develop players. Enough with excuses, let’s qualify for a bowl game and can we maybe beat Maryland for a change?

I want your Turtles at their best and see RU take the win.
Most of both fan-bases probably want the Nits to be their school's main rival.
I want Turtle soup on the Knights main rival menu

I think that no matter what "rivalry" anybody tries to force, these two schools/programs will always be linked as the 2014 newbies, and are each other's important rival. And that's great as far as I'm concerned. They are rather similar, just as (in my opinion), and the residents of the two states are equally similar based on my life experiences living in both places.

So I'm with you on the turtle soup...

What @RUGuitarMan said below as far as us.
You guys have recruited better than RU and have used the portal more effectively. A bit of a head scratcher. Could be wrong, but don't think Maryland's facilities are THAT much better than ours. Maybe your NIL pays out more?

Totally agree. This 2 or 3 more years to see how the new OC does is ridiculous. Bottom line, 5 wins should be the only acceptable floor, with 6 being highly preferred for 2023. If RU can notch 6 wins in year 4 or 5 of a new coach, then maybe it is time for a new coach.

Well, Jones-Hill House is pretty impressive, and probably makes a big difference in recruiting (Rutgers Al will agree). It also helps that there are so many D1-quality players close by who, as it turns out, are happy to stay home and play.

I don't think NIL at Maryland is anything to write home about.

Most importantly, and this is something I am skeptical that you all will accept, is that Mike Locksley is proving to be an good coach, leader, and CEO (I still remember all derision and comparisons with Greg Schiano on this board when both were hired; hence, my skepticism). He is a thoughtful man who lives and breathes Terrapins football. Although he has won many awards and has a nice resume, many will never give him any respect or credit for success. But I think he is the reason -- he has pulled a lot of things together and made them work...

Well, the skepticism of Locksley was warranted with his 2-26/2-15 stint at New Mexico and his 1-5 run in 2015 with Maryland (I know it was temporary). However, his time at the Nick Saban rehab clinic for wayward coaches seems have done well for him. Josh Gattis is a solid hire as OC, and Sumlin as Co-OC is great too. Locksley seems like a decent guy.
Took a look at a video of the Jones-Hill House, and while the fieldhouse is impressive, I have been through RU's football facilities a couple of times in the last few years, and not exactly seeing the wow factor compared to RU's facilities. Rutgers lacks a field house, but their outdoor practice facility is a great, and their facilities in the Hale Center, including the locker rooms, lounges, rehab areas, weight room are solid too.

I didn't know that, actually. From some posters I get the impression that they practice in the parking lot, with a weight room that looks like what the Cosby Kids had.

I am hoping for a Rutgers resurgence in football, as is my Rutgers-grad son. Like lots of you, I will never forget that dramatic Louisville game from Schiano I.

We lack the fieldhouse. We have a bubble, but our outdoor practice complex is fantastic. Here are some pics of the Marco Battaglia practice complex:

Locker room and training complex-not as large or as shiny new as other teams, but it is impressive:

Sorry for the late reply; I am following the lacrosse game.

That is very impressive. I had no idea. Is that near the football stadium?

No, not kidding. Why would I know where it is?
You haven't been to a game in the last 5-6 years? I thought you were a Jersey guy Maryland fan.. figured you had to have been to a Maryland game up here.. though they do tend to be in late November.. practically the worst time for Jersey weather... with only February topping it.

No, not kidding. Why would I know where it is? I don't know what Hale Center is, either...
The map and the image below give a view. You will see the practice complex in lower right and SHI stadium lower right. They are adjacent and separated by a feeder road for parking for the Hale Center, which is attached/beneath the stadium where the locker rooms, training facilities, weight rooms and meeting rooms are for football.

This is a view of the entry to the Hale Center and the Stadium (top left), with part of the practice field complex on the lower right. The bubble is top right. The bubble is very old, but functional. There are three separate practice fields, which is quite nice when the weather is warm. As the pictures in the posts above show, there are video towers so that practice can be videotaped and analyzed.
Rutgersal tends to make lame excuses for our facilities. Are they as nice as Maryland's and others. No. But they are not terrible. And they are no excuse for us to perform poorly compared to our peers such as Indiana, Maryland, Northwestern, Minnesota.

There is a small parking lot for the Hale Center and football staff at the end of the small access road that separates the practice fields from the Stadium. The tennis complex is also in this area.

Actually I think Al is right. That weight room is unacceptable and needs to be replaced.

On a completely unrelated note - any chance Rutgers would sell that R branded equipment to the public? Asking for a friend........
