Where do you see the next 4 wins?

You said 100 to 1, correct? I would take that bet and who wouldn't?

Vandy, Mizzou, Austin Peay, Georgia, and Mississippi St are all winnable. Bama is impossible, UofL and UT are very, very unlikely.

Not that my opinion matters but if Stoops can pull out 6 wins this year I'm all for giving him an opportunity at continuing on another season. However, the way the team has performed thus far, 4 wins seems like this teams ceiling which is absolutely unacceptable.

I agree that 4 wins would be a major disappointment and 6 wins was the Vegas over/under. The issue becomes what if he wins 5? I'm not sure where I stand on his future with 5 wins. Replacing a coaching staff isn't always a bed of roses.

Either way it's time to get behind the team and cheer like hell for a bowl trip.

Well it wont be a risky move to send Stoops packing. Replacing a coach who averages 5 win seasons (when 3 are scheduled to be gimmes) is usually pretty easy to do and can be done for at a fraction of the cost.

It can be and has been worse.

My point is this...Stoops most likely will head into year 5 without taking us to a bowl game. 2 wins a year, 3 , 4 , 5 even, who cares? Because if thats the acceptable standard, then there is little to no risk in rolling the dice with a replacement who at the very least can and has historically done the same around here.

Yeah, I'm sure you were saying the same thing about Rich Brooks.

Rich Brooks had a lifetime losing record here, and I think he's going into the UK HOF. Anyway.. In year 4, Brooks went 8-5. Stoops isn't going to a bowl game this year, and I WOULD LOVE to eat crow... BUT at some point in life, you become a realist. You'll get there someday.

For context:

His (Brooks) first three years were a combined: 9-25

Stoops first three years: 12-24
I think it's fair to say both coaches took over a program that needed some serious rebuilding.

2006 was Brooks fourth year as well. I don't see this Stoops team in its fourth year beating anybody we're not supposed to, but at the same time, I am not saying that won't happen, either.

I understand that the SEC back then was better than it is now.

Also in 2006, Brooks' fourth year, we got waxed by LSU 49-0. That's when things changed for that team.

2007 would be Brooks' fifth year, and 2009 would be his seventh, so don't think we can quite compare those years just yet.

And the biggest factor of it all in my opinion? Brooks was a very experienced coach (18 seasons at Oregon from 1977-1994) when he took over. He was also experienced in rebuilding a program. Stoops was a first time coach.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with you, BTW. Just throwing more ideas out in the conversation. ;-)
I agree, but I am projecting at situation where this team does not beat anyone of consequence this season and ends up at 4-8 or worse.

Obviously, if this team manages to win some games down the stretch vs teams other than Vandy and APSU, the conversation changes.

In the end, I'm trying to pin it down to the fact that 4 seasons is going to be more than enough time to determine if Stoops deserves to remain as head coach.

Mike was that you who got hurt on the motorcycle wreck with Petrino?

I wanted Bobby Petrino 4 years ago. When we chose not to even interview him, I knew it was a mistake. The moral U fans crack me up. If being a winner makes me a female volleyball player, then so be it.

I'll bet $10 vs your $1000 on a 6 win season, you in?

Don't hurt your pocket too bad.

I've said time after time it's fans like these as to why Mitch Barnhart is so content with fielding a loser and not doing anything about it. Pathetic. We have way too many of these fans that somehow need to be weeded out.
