Are the people of Kentucky supporting Louisville football and UK basketball?

With the UL stadium expansion they must need more seats to do this and at the same time CWS is reducing seating. UK basketball will always be King for most Kentuckians, even Louisville people, but is the tide turning to Louisville football because they win? And now Louisville is even recruiting players from Belfry which in the past would have never happened.

Opinions???

The best I can do is acknowledge their (UL's) existence and their athletic quality. I've been on the receiving end of so much hatred and spite from their fans.

UL was pulling kids from Boyle County and even Lexington a decade ago.

Unless you're a top 10 traditional powerhouse, any expansion in the era of HDTV is money wasted. Unless you're somehow bilking the taxpayer. They wouldn't do that would they?

lol

mitch invested zero above the bare minimum for over 10 years while jurich closed down the city college for games, robbed students and taxpayers, imported thugs and worse hired lowlifes, covered up whatever he could, and in general cut corners while the NCAA fiddled.

UK will be fine now that the fans woke the administration up, much better shape than when CMS got here.

And who knows, the feds may wake up some day.

It's correct, no true blue U.K. Fan would ever care about anything Louisville but we live in an microwave society remember, history be damned, what have you done for me lately society.

Like many on here, I am a U.K. grad. So It's in my blood but do you all think that the love for UK is the same from Paducah to Pikeville like it was in the past?

Hell no. And UK fans are more than willing to support UK football if they have a supportable product. After 40 years, UK football fans have a right to sit home and watch for now. Show imorovement and sustain it on the field, people will show up in droves abd pack Commonwealth

I dont know anyone who supports bith UK and UL except Papa John

Always been a fan of both teams until they play each other. Don't see a problem with it. But I was raised a UK fan and am a UofL grad.
BTW, never understood those who believe that you have to hate UofL and/or the City of Louisville in order to be a "true blue" UK fan. Louisville is one of the finest cities in the Country and some Kentucky residents can't see that through the hate. SMH

Is it OK if I simply couldn't give two for basketball in general? That's where I start with the basketball program.

Agree except I don't know enough about the city to rate it vs. others. I do know my taxes support that school & I'm fine with that. Don't blame LV for your own school's shortcomings.

I graduated from UL and live in Oldham county. I loathe UL and most of their fans. I hate driving into the city. Give me the country any time.

It makes me sick any "Kentucky fan" would root for Louisville when they aren't playing the Cats. I hope they lose every game.

Remember, the most important aspect in this is the student athlete. We, as Kentuckians, should support all Kentucky athletes from grade school thru college. The better we treat them, the better they will perform on and off the field. Hopefully their experience will be positive enough that they will choose to stay in Kentucky after their playing days are over. The AD's and the coaches will change but the colleges will remain the same, the students will remain the same, and the desire to build a better state through altletics should remain the same.

Correct me if I'm wrong HotDice but wasn't your question more of a financial question rather than a following question? In other words with UL expanding it means they are expecting more demand to fill their place and UK has always relied on a heavy following from the city of Louisville to financially support our places. Can the State of Kentucky do both or will one suffer at the expense of the other because there won't necessarily be new fans supporting UL both pulling form the same pile.

I don't care for bandwagon fans. I have always suppoted Alabama football, Ky basketball, New York Yankees and New England Patriots

Exactly! Those ******** are so easy to spot too. I remember I was at a bar once in college and I saw some douchebag wearing a Kansas Jayhawks basketball shirt while also wearing a Texas Longhorns hat. People like that most likely couldn't name 2 players on any of those teams they claim they support. Anyway, if you're a UK fan there's absolutely no way in hell you cheer for anything UofL!

A lot of the people in this state who love UK basketball have now become Alabama football fans. They used to be Tennessee fans but switched after they became garbage. Most of the fans that cheer for Louisville football cheer for Louisville basketball. There's no reason for them to cheer for UK basketball..they've got a pretty dang good program themselves and seem to win just as many titles as we do in recent history

Difference of opinion is fine. But I have to correct you on the tax comment. The Louisville area contributes the vast majority of taxes to the General Assembly, which is then distributed disproportionally to the rest of the State. In other words, Louisville gets much, much less than it puts into the pot. So your tax dollars aren't supporting Louisville at all (and the UofL athletic department is also self-supported with virtually no help from Frankfort).
And I would encourage you to visit sometime. City life may not be for everyone but it's definitely worth the visit and there are people (media articles, TV shows, etc.) from all over the Country singing Louisville's praises, and it consistently lands on the various "best" lists of places to live, visit, work, party, etc. So that is coming from independent sources who could care less about the sports rivalry. If you refuse to visit just b/c you think that it makes you less of a UK fan, then I'm simply suggesting that you're missing out. If you continue to hate it after giving it a try, then that's okay but at least it will be based upon actual experience.

Agree except I don't know enough about the city to rate it vs. others. I do know my taxes support that school & I'm fine with that. Don't blame LV for your own school's shortcomings.

I am a Louisville fan when they play, as I live in Louisville but I am a big fan of both teams and love my Cats too. I guess I am a rare breed. I enjoy sport for pure entertainment though, college games do not make or break my life.

Yes, in a way. Their AD must think they are going too put butts in these extra seats from someplace. Is Louisville growing that much that they need extra seats?

HELL NO...NEVER!!!! Go to the Otis board and bring up this BS and see what response you get...people like you and UK's own administration don't get the fact that TJ plays for KEEPS!!! His goal is to put UK athletics as far in the rear view mirror as he can and is doing a damn good job of it...MB dosen't have a clue when it comes to competing with him!

You know not of what you speak. Hell, I sat on Bear Bryant's knee when I was a little boy.

You really agree with me slugger. I was asking were TJ is going to get the bodies to fill the new seats. Is Louisville getting Syrian refugees or did I miss something.
