Can we all agree Hubbard is not a “great”’player?

He's a good college player that can breakout occasionally as a great offensive player. Has the skill set to be great but inconsistencies on offense and a middling defense holds him back.

Also the fact that I'm taller than him, and I'm not tall at all.

He's a really good player, especially considering his size. But he has very little quality help.

This is little bit better than average team and they're playing like it. It's unlikely to change.

Hubbard three point shooting reminds me of me betting parlays.

I gone lose 4 for 5 but that one I do hit makes up for all the other misses

Takes a special player to out work every player on the floor, never let the team get lazy during the game, coach up players that make mistakes and demand better, take smart shots, make smart plays, and not just hope for a few miracle shots to fall at the end of the end of the game.

Hubbard has none of these qualities, but sometimes, he makes great shots.

I'll take the other side, I don't agree. People have slumps., or poor games.
I'll say the Missouri player defending him played great D, especially in the first half.

I think he is a “great” college player. He is not an elite player and not someone Jans should build next years team around.

He leads the team in assists by a large margin, he leads by a huge margin in free throws made, he is second in steals, he is second in 3 point shooting percentage. I would say he is doing a great job.

Very good. Not great. Not a generational talent to build a team around. Needs a really good point guard and center he can feed and feed off of. He’s not the reason we’re losing. He’s also not going to be the reason we win very often without a better supporting cast. He’ll make some money in Europe later in life.

How many good picks a game have you seen this team set ?
Zero. That's my point. We play lazy. It's 1 on 5 lazy basketball like they don't really care.

Curry is on another level and teams try to stop him. He just runs off screens all game because he actually wants to win and will work hard to win. Hubbard could score much more if he worked harder and ran around more and the team setup screens. But we just look careless and don't care enough to try that hard.

The other thing is the offensive approach by Chris Jans does not give Hubbard a lot of clean looks. It’s a lot of Hubbard creation.
We need a guard that can handle pressure bringing it down court, he(12) needs to be in the shooting guard position,
It would take off a lot of pressure, IMO
But we don't currently seem to have anyone to fit that bill.

The way we wait until the last 2 minutes to scrap and play hard and jack up 3's to win is very immature, like badly coached high school teams.

Do we really need to **** on our best player just so some of you can say “I told you so”?
First of time I’ve mentioned it. Not trying to say “I told you so,” but I was at our Ole Miss game and watched today. Great players don’t disappear for multiple halves a season.

Agree he’s a good player and appreciate what he’s given us, but he’s a “professional” athlete that our athletic department and coach have built a team around with the corresponding publicity/anticipation and he’s not delivering.

Points per game and 3’s made don’t mean anything when your shooting percentage is ~10% for a half.

Right now I would put Q Weatherspoon ahead of him. Q was a much more consistent player on both ends of the floor.
Is that even a question? On the right team, Hubbard could be deadly. But if you were building a team, I don’t think you ever pick Hubbard over Q unless they are going to be the third best player on the team. In that case, Hubbard skillset could put him above Q. But in most situations, you’re going to pick Q.

and that’s not a knock on Hubbard. Not going to crap on our best player because he’s not the type of generational talent that can make an otherwise weak team good.

Jans is a defensive coach who’s abandoned that chasing better offense but doesn’t know how to evaluate or coach offense. So he’s got the worst of both now.
BINGO.

We love to idolize certain players, usually well known ones from the state. Even moreso in the NIL era. Considering Jans has been a successful coach everywhere (and here), it’s pretty obvious what’s going on here. And hey, a sneaky little secret is that we’re seeing the same thing happen in the football program.

Selmon has allowed way too much booster influence. I would imagine we see Jans slap some folks around next year and build his kind of team and try to win his way out.

It’s Auburn bullshlt just on a smaller scale. It won’t happen in baseball bc Oak won’t allow it. As far as Jans goes I put some of it on him for allowing it but I can imagine it’s tough when you’re caught in the middle like that with an idolized player who, for some reason, everyone has anointed as some superstar. I mean Darryl Wilson was better than this dude.

It does. But that’s part of it. Q was a much better player. It’s not close.
Way better defender too but he had the length to be a good defender especially at guard in college.

Hubbard biggest issue is the team around him and the “offense”. There’s not enough contributors on offense to take the pressure off him. You need on any given night to have two other scorers to carry some of that load and teams are keying on him and making the others try to beat them. Epps typically is the secondary scorer on this roster but after that it just falls off to nothing and that’s what we saw last night. Also they are horrid at setting up plays for him. Might have the worst screen setting team I have seen in a long time.
