Can't believe some folks wanted Johnson benched

546 total yards is pretty good offense. He has some fumbling issues but it's not the first time a new QB starting in the SEC needed to figure stuff like that out. Asking the kid to be Peyton Manning isn't fair and the guy behind him isn't either. If 546 yards of offense isn't good enough for you then you are expecting Peyton Manning.

How do we know how good Hoak is? He is behind Barker and Johnson for a reason, if he was Jalen Hurts I believe he would be playing

Johnson threw for 292 yards and 2 TDs 0 interceptions despite a lot of drops - yet some of our "fans" want him benched in favor of a true freshmen. BTW Fitzgerald MSU had 81 yards 1 TD 1 Pick.
I know right. At the half so many posts calling for Hoak. We don't know what he can do. We do know he has never taken a college snap. People need to get real, if Johnson and/or Barker stays healthy we will not see Hoak

Good for him and good for this team. With that said. If Hoak is better and isn't a fumble factory then he should play. We need the best players on the field.

I see this as an easy thing to understand because coaches want to win more then anything I think. First talent may be the least of Hoak's problems. Maybe he hasn't grasped the playbook yet, or his decision making and accuracy is off. We know he's not being hit in practice so he's not going to be ready for that. We have accused Brooks, Joker, and Stoops with the same question and yet not one of those QBs ever came forward and were an instant success. Usually HCs sees how their guy does in practice and expects it to happen on the field and when it doesn't they do seem to allow more tolerance.

I was sick about his inaccuracy at the half, and later livid with the fumble scoop 6, but I give up. The kid is a competitor, even if inconsistent, and I am just going live and die with him the rest of the way. Other than the fumble (yes, huge) he was lights out the 2nd half.

How would you know if he is a fumble factory or not until he is given the chance, that is a coaching decision.

Is getting better each game...if he can whip the fumbling bugaboo I don't think DP gets the job back.

The fumbles are obnoxious, but I don't know how I'd feel about benching SJ at this point in the season. I didn't like the call to bench Towles so late in the season last year, although I realize we were already broken down by the time Stoops did. Really wanted to beat UL, and kind of feel like that ruined that. SJ actually appears to be gaining momentum.

You would think people would want to get behind our qb, he's our guy, he's doing all he can, and he's winning flaws and all. But not this bunch. It ain't football around here unless theres constant bitching.

UK shouldn't play the freshman QB over Johnson on Saturday. It's a big game and the freshman would be too green playing in his first game. Might as well stick with Johnson whom has five games under his belt.

To be a new QB playing in the SEC Johnson does not look bad, sometime he will have a bad quarter and need to be more careful with the ball, but he is the best QB i would say we have right now..

There old saying is the best player on the team is the backup. Until we get him.

The team plays for him. They didn't respond as well for Barker. I don't know why, they just didn't.

He showed a heck of a lot of guys on that last drive. Pretty good make up after the fumble and the penalty.

He's the guy barring injury. The coaches would have already pulled How's red shirt if they thought he could do this. If there's an injury, we are likely to see wildcat with Kemp or Snell from then on.

This thought process that Hoak isn't being played simply bc Stoops doesn't want to burn a redshirt has got to stop. If Hoak was the better option, based on seeing him in practice for the past 3 months, he would be in the game. Stoops is going to play who he feels gives us the best chance to win. In this case, it's Johnson.

And 2 fumbles. He played just fine, but he does this every game. It almost killed us this time. We were literally 4 yards from icing the game, and he gives up a 95 yard fumble return. It can't keep happening.

I never thought that he should be benched but he has shown a propensity of losing the ball. Last week alone, he had two fumbles and both resulted in TD’s for Miss St.

None of you can tell me that when he losses the ball that you don’t get a kick in the gut. Be honest, that last fumble when we’re inside the 10, getting ready to go up by 17 points and put the game away. But instead the ball is knocked out and Miss St scoops and scores and we need a heroic effort to kick a field goal in the last three seconds. Got to give him credit as well. We would not have been in a position to score if he didn’t make the 18 yard pass competition at the end.

He's not a great QB by any means, but he's serviceable. He played much better in the second half but he's got to limit the fumbles.

This. The old saying winning cures all ills is alive and well when discussing Johnson. Hes serviceable. At times, good. But his ball security is atrocious. His fumbles must stop. Hes had 2 I can think of that went for scoop and scores. The last one against MSU almost cost us the game. Anything besides a scoop and score, and we almost surely blow them out.

Our margin for error is so slim, we cant afford to just keep giving the ball away. Especially when it results in defensive TDs. More especially when the rest of the team has been very secure carrying the ball all season.

To make matters worse, every single team will try to hold him up and strip him on every run. So he either corrects it, or we're in for more of the same.

He also had two td passes that were not caught

He had 2 possible TDs that were as much bad throws as they were drops. They shouldve been TDs for sure. But his poor throw put the receiver in a position to have to go up and make a much more difficult catch than required. They still shouldve caught it though.

I feel like we need a montage for SJ like first take had for Tebow...

All he does is win baby...it may be ugly and it may not be because of nice, pretty, cookie cutter passing, he may even turn the ball over at the most inopportune times, but by god the team is winning.

Folks, SJ is the starter going forward. The team, specifically the offense, needs to be designed around him and his abilities.

For the first time Since Woodson and the peak of the Brooks era we have a team and offense with an identity and the squad seems have some confidence in what they are doing.

There appears to be some chemistry and confidence with them and they are clicking.

Johnson needs to tuck the ball when the pocket collapses on him , he continues to hold it with two hand when players are swiping at the ball . Just pull it down and take the sack , he has to cut the fumbles down .

The fumble against MSU though wasn't a sack situation, it was a read option play and he pulled the ball then followed Snell through the hole and got stood up and stripped. I believe Johnson's fumble problem has to do with his overall strength in general, he is not a big guy and just not very strong, that's just my two cents.

Woodson also struggled with vall security his first year as a starter. It takes some adjustments to get used to size speed and strength if a high level.

I wasn't referring to his run fumble , he has several fumbles in the pocket this year . He fumbles in general and the run you speak of is another example of how he doesn't keep the ball close to his body . He's not strong , so he needs better technique to compensate for that .

Agree, has t cover the with both hands and take the sack instead of trying to make something happen with his legs once he is in the grasp. I just assumed we were talking about the scoop and score against MSU since that was his latest TO. We all know what assuming does. lol

That horrible pick he just threw is one reason people remain skeptical. He shouldve had two more picks they dropped. No matter the stats Johnson lives on the edge and is always a play away from helping the other team. He lives dangerously at the least.

Not a great QB throwing the ball. Wish we had someone else at QB. JMO. Been following since 1966. GBB

He's kind of shaky but then he does something good, needs to get the throws down a little, I get nervous when he lets it go. We can't afford anymore turnovers this game.

Was this posted before or after the pick? If that ball is over the top we are up 3 touchdowns
