I dont have a "hard time" seeing Stoops come back, we got several pumpers who will accept him back with a 3rd consecutive 5 win season. And we know that if 10% of BBN still backs him, Barnhardt will point to that as reason to keep him. 5 wins or not, its so sad the little self respect UK football fans have.

Back on topic, I like the idea of Les Miles here.

I've never really been all that impressed with Miles as a coach. He does have 7 10-win seasons in his career, but I always thought LSU played a boring style of football and just got by on sheer talent in most of his years there.
Offensively this year they are close to the bottom of the SEC. Way down. Not sure UK fans would go for a coach who can't light it up offensively.

Could be interesting. We could literally say we have a national championship winning coach. There is no other coach in the country that would consider UK and that would have that on his resume. Still, I fully understand the reservations.

If I'm Miles, I keep Gran and Hinshaw in order to allow this Kentucky team some continuity in the offense. Then hopefully that helps the offense issues Miles has had.

Recruiting... I'm on the fence. Miles is a big name and that will have people paying attention. However, it is hard to predict his recruiting ability when he was in a talent rich state and all kids there dream of going to LSU.

Overall, it wouldn't be the most exciting hire to me, but I would be pretty upset if we passed over him and took on someone with an average track record from a small school, or if we took a coordinator.

You think we could fire Schlarman and bring Miles in as head coach and line coach and then fire Eliot and name Stoops associate head coach and DC? Just keep paying Stoops the same to be DC and to continue recruiting. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I'm sure it will work. Lol:eek:kay::football:

Are we that desperate? Didnt we already go that route with Curry? Are many too young to remember? Big name coach with a former title. Seemed to slowly roll downhill after said title. Made a big splash when hired. Then had Tim running the option! Was also responsible for one of the most boring games I can remember sitting through on a horribly cold and rainy night vs IU.

Id rather steer clear of Miles should Stoops get ran.

I agree with taking a pass on Les Miles. Good coach in the trenches in his history but I'd be skeptical with his rather meager offensive outputs w/o all of those 4/5* kids out of Bama, La, Texas, Florida, etc.. that he ain't' getting to UK.

If there is a coach on hot seat that I'd like to take a chance on at UK it is Gus Malzahn if Auburn is dumb enough to cut bait. The guy runs a good offensive system. He brought the hurry up no huddle offense to college ball. Does need help on defense but all in all, I'd love to gamble on Gus if the stars were to align.

No thanks. i don't think some fans realize that miles had a losing season one time. he only won 4 games in his first year at ok st.
I hate to think of a loser like that coming here and possibly winning only 4 games in his first year. i want someone who knows how to win in the sec.

Miles is an absolute stud coach. He would check every check mark needed at UK except one.....and it's a critical one. He won't change his offense....it's outdated. He'd have 1-2 more championships and would still be at LSU if he'd only let the offense evolve to something more modern. Saban realized he had to that's why he's throwing and spreading the ball around way more now than he had in the past.

Miles would only be successful at UK if he'd open the offense. If not then he'd fail.

I doubt Miles could draw the same kind of 4&5 star talent to UK like he did at LSU.

I think he could be a nice transition coach. We have talent on this team he could win with next year. Seven, eight wins. My concern is time. He is 62 and can he recruit to Kentucky? Hire him for two or three years. Get us some wins this fan base requires. Don't necessarily name a head coach in waiting, but do have that guy. Not saying that's possible, just the way I'd want to do it.

Ok St had 1 winning season in 12 years prior to hiring Les Miles. he won 4 games his first year then bowl seasons the next 3 before taking LSU job. he has obviously had to perform in a place that needed rebuild. do some research people.

Wait.. soo..
Les Miles can't get it done without his 4 and 5 star players at UK but Malzahn can? Malzahn had 4/5 star players at Auburn and is on the hot seat.

Has stoops been fired?

Nope and from what was said on KSR yesterday he might not be short of a 3 win season. Jones said yesterday the big time boosters really like Mark Stoops. In comparison, that's what got Miles fired from LSU. Boosters lost their patience and wanted a change.

So next year when UK football is still mired in mediocrity and people want to blame Mitch you can throw the boosters in there too with that. If our big time boosters are that blind, then they are also a reason for the program's struggles just like the administration

If the AD has an IQ above 30 and gives a rat's *** about whether or not we're any good at football, he will be.

These two comments capture nicely just one piece of the complexities here. Sometimes you get the idea on this board that fixing football is as easy as rolling out of bed and taking the morning piss. It's not. A lot of moving parts.....

If stoops were fired, Les would probably be in the discussion. Considering he just lost one of the best coaching jobs in college football, it makes you wonder how he might change some of his coaching philosophies.

I think he'd be worth firing Stoops over.

If we are concerned about losing our recruiting momentum, then Miles helps stabilize it and possibly improve.

Plus, it would answer the question in a lot of people's minds about what happens if you get a proven winner at UK.

I know he's not Saban, or Meyer, but he's in that next tier.

Get him here and see what happens. If he fails, then maybe we start to view Curry with less hostility and come to realize that it really would take someone amazing to succeed at UK.

114-34 career record at LSU
National Championship in 2011
SEC Championships 2007 & 2011
SEC West Championships 2011, 2007, 2005

62 years old - about the same age of Spurrier when he took over USCe

Not too shabby a record overall when you consider what you're up against in the SEC West.

He can recruit but his X's and Os and clock management are terrible. His Big Ten I formation style would go over like the Hindenburg here. I'd take him provided he got quality assistant coaches though. Flashy or not if hiring Les Miles guarantees us 8-10 wins a season I really don't give a flip if we ever throw the ball again.
