No he has all ready had enough extensions and big buyout!!
I don't think the buyout is necessary to the extension. You can leave the buyout alone and still give him an extension.

Frankly, I would say yes. It sends a strong signal to the coaching staff and to recruits. However, let's concentrate on finishing up the schedule first and worry about contract issues in December.

No matter how the rest of the season goes, no. He would need to have two 9-10 win seasons to get another extension. If he were able to put that together then I would say hell yes in a heartbeat. People forget that this is his first HC job, and he has to learn on the fly. I think he has all the makings to be an excellent HC and I hope we are the benefactors of that.

No. No. No. Doing good at the the end of one season does not bring along an extension. Give him 2 more years and see how things are going then. If you give him an extension now and then for some reason crashes and burns, you are screwed.

If he gets to 7 plus wins I think you have to, especially given the adjustments he has made throughout the year. That should get him in the conversation for SEC Coach of the Year. I don't think there are any schools out there that would not revisit his contract after winning that award.

I wish folks would get over the bad start to the season. We are at or ahead of any reasonable expectations right now/

Does everyone realize that his current deal runs out in 2019? If we don't give him an extension we might as well stop recruiting. Coaches always need at least 4 years on their contract to sell to recruits that they will be their coach for the next 4 years.

If he can keep it up do this again next year but make sure no mishaps like USM and no more games of non effort like the UF game etc.. If he can make a run for the SEC EAST again next year then I would say yes lets put it on table. Our recruiting has got to jump after these last few weeks.

Well if thats the case lets see how it plays out if he wins 2-3 more games then maybe we give him a year then see what happens next year. The thing about next year our schedule will not be as favorable.

I can see adding a year. So if we add a year this year, that gives him to 2020. Then if we go to another bowl next year, add a year. I see no problem with that plan.

Is he due a contract extension for how well the team has responded.

No. This why our fanbase is uneducated when it comes to football. These should be NORMAL Kentucky seasons. Mismanagement by everyone is why they haven't been the past 40 years.

If he continues his progress, then yes. I wouldn't even think about giving him an extention until he has 2 years left, unless he has given me a reason to extend earlier.

I'm somewhat concerned that if Stoops and UK win big the rest of the season and Jimbo Fischer ends up at LSU that FSU may make a push for Stoops.
Makes total sense.
If UK ends up winning 9 gms or more Barney better throw the bank at Stoops.

He was rewarded for mediocrity earlier, he has done a great job this year. I am sure he has clauses in his contract that include bonuses for certain number of wins, bowl appearances, etc. So he is already making 3.5 million this season, and his contract will roll over with a raise. So no jumping the gun again, he is very loyal, I believe, and no need to worry about jumping ship.

Please, no.. His current contract runs through June of 2020 and he's the 26th highest paid coach. Even if this team won out (including a bowl), that's just one successful year out of four. Nobody is going to come looking until he has more than one successful year. Remember, he's only had one win against an FBS opponent that ended up with a winning record.

Math isn't always our strong suit, so I'll reiterate what you posted.

We are asking kids who will be playing until the 2020-2021 or 2021-2022 school years to commit to a coach who is only under contract until 2019.

The only way it makes sense to give him an extension would be to drastically change the buyout package. Barney pulled the trigger too soon with the extensions and he way over-committed financially. Should have put a $5 million cap on the buyout but included increased buyout compensation for winning seasons, bowl bids, etc.

He doesn't have a buyout, he has a guaranteed contract. Everything being the same, if you give him an extension you increase his buyout...

We haven't beat a team with a winning record. I'm still not convinced he's the man for the job but I do give him credit for winning the games he should since Southern Miss. If he can pull one out against Georgia it will make up for that loss and possibly get recruiting back on track.

This makes sense to me. Annual extension out to 4 yrs under contract seems acceptable, though I think the buyout amount/structure should be examined if that is intended.

Waiting for someone to establish themselves as a coach is a catch 22. Wait to long to extend the contract and risk another program snatching your coach and your assistants. Also doesn't help recruiting when you can't tell a kid you have a contract through their eligibility. Granted its likely premature at 5-3 but it's not something Barnhart is going to wait long on and he shouldn't.

Two more years extended now. If you don't think there will be offers this year, you don't know football.

Perhaps you're right, but I don't think guys worry much about 4 years out. Thru only '18? Perhaps.

Only at UK is there talk of a contract extension with the team sitting on just 5 wins. Haven't we been here before?!

Is Leon the Camel a secret UKAD account getting the feelers out for how well another insane extension and buyout would sit with the fan base?

Let's see how he does next season. Let's say we end up going 7-6, then I would like to see 8 wins just to show that he is improving after a good season.

This is mind boggling. In 4 years Stoops' teams have beaten ..........what is it....1 team with a winning record? And so many are worried about him being snatched away, and advocating for another contract extension? Unbelievable. And you want to cut Mitch loose with negotiating another contract......a 12 million buyout wasn't enough? If you think FSU or any other school has notions of grabbing Stoops you're hysterically wrong.

Don't take this wrong. You have to play the schedule you are given, but it is WAY too early to talk contract extensions at this time. We have beaten four teams with a combined 4-14 conference record with three of those wins being at home. Our road win was against an 0-4 conference team.

Let's see how the rest of them play out. Win two more and you might can start talking about a reasonable extension hopefully with no stupid buyout. Stoops has did a good job since game three and hopefully it continues.
